Ice-T Gained Fame For This Controversial '90s Song

The actor has had quite the history with cops, including when he was in a heavy metal band in 1992, where they released the song "Cop Killer." The track addressed the culture of police brutality and systemic violence against minorities by police officers.

It featured a story from a fictional character who got tired of repeated abuse from law enforcement and was forced to react. Due to its confrontational lyrics, the track sparked several debates about the concept of free speech, artistic expressions, and music as a tool of social movements.

The rapper clarified that the song was not a signal for anyone to be violent towards a cop, but a means for members of the marginalized communities to make their voices heard.

Despite this clarification, police unions and organizations asked that the song be taken down as it may encourage violence against law enforcement agents.

As long as Ice T is happy, his long-time fans are happy too!
