Prince Philip reportedly cautioned his grandson, Prince Harry, about getting married to Meghan Markle, claiming that actresses are not wife material.
The Duke of Edinburgh is understood to have compared the "Suits" actress to Wallis Simpson, the American socialite whom King Edward abdicated the throne to marry.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have since left their royal roles and relocated abroad, with the duchess recently sharing that she can't get enough of her husband's love in candid remarks.
Prince Philip Warned The Duke About Marrying Meghan Markle

Weeks before his 2018 wedding to Meghan, Prince Harry allegedly received a stern warning from his grandfather, Prince Philip, about tying the knot with her.
In his book "Entitled," royal biographer Andrew Lownie wrote about how Philip wasn't at rest with Harry's decision shortly after he got engaged to her, telling him, "One steps out with actresses, one doesn't marry them," per the Daily Mail.
Royal author Ingrid Seward also said in her 2024 book "My Mother, and I, Philip," that Philip was "one of the very few wary" of Meghan when she and Harry started dating in 2016.
According to the news outlet, Philip allegedly thought it "uncanny" about how Meghan reminded him of Wallis Simpson, whom King Edward abdicated to marry.
Prince Philip's Four-Word Response After Leaving Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Wedding

Like Edward and Simpson, the couple's time as working royals was short-lived as they resigned in 2020 to go live in America, where they now raise their children. The situation led Prince Philip to nickname Meghan "DOW," which stands for Duchess of Windsor, after Simpson.
His estranged brother Prince William was also part of the people who weren't 100 percent okay with their wedding, as reports suggest the future king was "nervous" about their upcoming wedding at the time.
In his bombshell memoir "Spare," Harry addressed his brother's concern about how his relationship with Meghan was picking up, writing: "'It's too fast,' he'd told me. 'Too soon.' In fact, he'd actually been pretty discouraging about me even dating Meg."
Despite the caution from several quarters, they got right ahead with walking down the aisle, but former royal butler Grant Harrold shared that Philip seemed unexcited about it.
"Thank f-ck that's over," he allegedly told Queen Elizabeth shortly after leaving the chapel.
The Late Prince Didn't Understand Why The Duchess Couldn't Follow His Example

Philip, who died in 2021, chose not to have a say in their marriage and allegedly told his wife that the Duke of Sussex would "be soon out of it."
However, he was in for a shock when they decided to withdraw from royal duties, further souring his relationship with Meghan.
According to Sky News, Seward explained that Philip was quite puzzled as to why Meghan couldn't follow his footsteps after marrying into the royal fold.
Speaking with the news outlet in 2020, the author explained: "I think he's very, very disappointed because I think he feels he gave up his naval career in order to stand by the Queen and help the monarchy."
"And why can't Meghan just give up her acting career, support her husband, and support the monarchy?" Seward continued. "He just cannot understand why she couldn't support Harry and help him rather than wanting to have her voice."
Meghan Markle Says Her 'Boundaries' Have Become 'Stronger'

Harry and Meghan's marriage continues to wax stronger as they not only share two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, but are also thriving in their respective endeavors.
In a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar, she opened up about how she has learned to keep herself grounded.
"I think my boundaries became stronger," Meghan said about her personal growth since stepping down from her role as a working royal.
"You find different ways to protect yourself," the former actress added.
The Duchess Gushed About How Her Husband Harry Loves Her 'So Boldly'

Speaking about her husband, Prince Harry, Meghan said: "He loves me so boldly, fully, and he also has a different perspective because he sees media that I wouldn't. No one in the world loves me more than him, so I know he's always going to make sure that he has my back."
The duchess added that part of what draws her to her husband is that he's "someone who just has this childlike wonder and playfulness."
"I was so drawn to that, and he brought that out in me," she added. "That's translated into every part of our life. Even in business, I want us to play and have fun and explore and be creative."
