Inside ​​Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's Mega Donation to Cement Celebrity Power Couple Status

The 2026 Met Gala theme has been unveiled, and Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are set to play a significant role in the event.

The prestigious event, scheduled for mid-next year, will also celebrate a new exhibition at the New York Museum of Art. 

News of Bezos and Sanchez's involvement in the Met Gala comes months after the two tied the knot in June, in a star-studded wedding that took place in Venice. 

The theme for the next Met Gala has been unveiled as "Costume Art," and it will mark the first for the 

New Vogue Editor-In-Chief Chloe Malle. With curator-in-charge Andre Bolton at the helm, the theme explores transformative fashion by spotlighting fashion and art on the same plane. 

According to Vogue, power couple Bezos and Sanchez will contribute heavily as one of the primary donors for the event. However, the exact sum of their contribution to the Costume Institute was not revealed.

The event will also celebrate the "Costume Art" exhibition, which will begin on May 10 and will run until January 2027. 

Bezos and his new bride are not strangers to the Met Gala, as they attended last year's event as a couple. The theme for the event in 2024 was "Garden of Time," and Sanchez hit the red carpet with a floral-inspired dress, while Bezos opted for a black tuxedo. 

Bezos and Sanchez's big move for the upcoming Met Gala comes after The Blast reported that the Amazon founder spared no expense in refurbishing his $90 million estate in Florida to create a comfortable space for his new bride to stay.

The property underwent a major facelift to transform its aesthetic value, and the lawn was said to have been filled with trees such as oaks and royal palms. Bezos also hired an arborist to oversee the process of importing the various exotic tree species to the property. 

The renovations were not only carried out on the property's exterior but also in the interior. The six-bed, nine-bath will now reportedly have luxury amenities such as a spa, sauna, and poolside cabana office, while the garage doors were upgraded at $103,000.

Bezos and Sanchez's luxury wedding in June was no doubt the event of the year. However, the drama that unfolded during the star-studded affair, which had several high-profile figures in attendance, was the main highlight.

One such moment was when Oprah Winfrey, who donned a glamorous pink gown for the wedding, looked visibly uneasy when she boarded a water taxi to go to the wedding venue. 

An expert lip reader confirmed to The Blast that Winfrey insisted that a porter climb into the taxi before she did.

"I need to grab the bottom of my gown," she told a porter. "Hang on, let me wave, I'm gonna wave… No, you climb in first," she ordered. 

The billionaire was also heard telling the porter, "Let me hold onto you. Don't let me fall. Be careful with me." 

Winfrey wasn't the only high-profile guest who had trouble with the water taxi at the expensive Venice-held ceremony. Khloé Kardashian, who was joined by other members of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, also had her moment.

Khloé, whose birthday was on Bezos' wedding day, donned a pale pink gown for the event. While approaching the water taxi, she asked, "Is this our taxi?" before telling her sister, Kim Kardashian, "It's so complicated. Oh, down we go."

Once finally on board, Kim said, "Here we go, I'm on," while Khloé confessed, "I might tumble, let's sit inside."

Barely two months after Bezos tied the knot, tragedy struck as he unfortunately lost his mother, Jackie, at the age of 78.

According to The Blast, Bezos paid tribute to her by sharing a lengthy write-up on Instagram looking back at her life. 

The businessman reflected on how his mother showered him with unwavering love and remained a support system to everyone she loved and cared about. 

He revealed that at the time of her death, she was surrounded by her loved ones and added that she would always be a treasured memory in his heart.
