Mark Epstein does not believe Republicans pushed for a vote to release the Jeffrey Epstein files purely out of goodwill.
In previous days, Republicans appeared unbothered by the release of the documents, with some representatives calling the files a "hoax" and "distraction." That stance seems to have changed, as seen by President Donald Trump taking to social media over the weekend to push for a vote to release the files.
A number of the already released files mentioned Donald Trump in ways that have led to increased scrutiny over whether he had any connection to Jeffrey Epstein beyond a trivial one.
Mark Epstein Claims A 'Pretty Good Source' Disclosed That The Files Are Being 'Sanitized'

Jeffrey Epstein's brother, Mark Epstein, has claimed there is a cover-up underway with regard to the Epstein files and that the Republicans' willingness to support a vote for its release reflects that.
"I've been recently told the reason they're going to be releasing these things, and the reason for the flip is that they're sanitizing these files," Mark told NewsNation in an interview.
He also alleged that FBI Director Kash Patel is involved in the cover-up, a claim he says came from a source who also told him it is taking place somewhere in Virginia.
"There's a facility in Winchester, Virginia, where they're scrubbing the files to take Republican names out of it. That's what I was told by a pretty good source," he further remarked.
Jeffrey Epstein Reportedly Had Dirt On President Donald Trump

Mark, in his interview, also hinted that Trump's denial of any relationship with Epstein was false.
Explaining the reasoning behind his stance, Mark said that his late brother had "dirt" on the billionaire mogul, although he noted that the details were never shared with him.
"He didn't tell me what he knew, but Jeffrey definitely had dirt on Trump," Mark remarked. "You could see in the emails, Trump could deny it all he wants, but it's pretty clear everything Trump says is a lie."
Trump has repeatedly and publicly denied having any close relationship with Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking minors.
However, one of the released emails claimed that Trump "spent hours" at Epstein's house with the late Virginia Giuffre, one of the sex offender's most prominent accusers.
A different email also alleged that Trump "knew about the girls" who were trafficked by the financier.
Mark Epstein Gave Context On Why He Clarified 'Bubba' Claims

Another email that emerged was one containing a sexually suggestive remark about Trump and Clinton.
The email, sent in 2018 between Mark and the then-chief strategist for Trump, asked whether Russian President Vladimir Putin had "the photos of Trump blowing Bubba."
It was suggested that "Bubba" referred to Bill Clinton, who is known by that nickname. However, Mark claimed in a prior interview that the name was not referencing the former president.
In his NewsNation interview, he then sought to clarify why he decided to weigh in on the matter.
"I'm not discussing that email. This is a private email between Jeffrey and myself, it's two brothers talking. It's nobody's business what we wrote," Mark said.
"The only thing I responded to, because people got crazy with the 'Bubba' reference (in the email), and they tried to pin it on Clinton," he said. "So I made a public statement that it was not any reference to Bill Clinton. I like Bill Clinton … the email had nothing to do with Clinton, and that's my last word on that email."
Donald Trump Called The Epstein Files A 'Hoax'

Trump has since slammed the released Epstein emails that mention him multiple times as a "hoax."
In a Truth Social post, the president accused Democrats of using the files to deflect from the government shutdown, claiming that he has ordered the attorney general, Pam Bondi, to investigate the likes of Bill Clinton, who also had ties to Epstein.
"Now that the Democrats are using the Epstein Hoax, involving Democrats, not Republicans, to try and deflect from their disastrous SHUTDOWN, and all of their other failures," he penned on the social media platform.
Trump added, "I will be asking A.G. Pam Bondi, and the Department of Justice, together with our great patriots at the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein's involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and many other people and institutions, to determine what was going on with them and him."
Representatives Passed Epstein Files Bill In Near Unanimous Vote

Over 23,000 documents related to Epstein have been made public after the files were handed over by his estate to the oversight committee.
More documents were expected to be released after the House of Representatives voted to pass the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
According to CBS, the bill required at least two-thirds of the House for passage, but received far more in a near-unanimous 427-1 vote. The only opposition came from Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana, a Republican.
The bill will compel the Justice Department to release all files within 30 days of being signed into law.
Only files containing supervisors' personal information or other sensitive material will be excluded from release.
