The "Gooba" rapper has been a magnet for controversy since his rise to fame and has been arrested for crimes ranging from gang affiliation and violence to possession of drugs.

In 2019, a federal judge sentenced him to 2 years in prison for pleading guilty and helping the government secure the conviction of several of his former gang associates in the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods.

Since then, Tekashi (born Daniel Hernandez) has been dubbed a "snitch" by many internet users, with many fearing he and his family may suffer some form of retribution or retaliation.

Back in August, the 29-year-old rapper got into some trouble when he violated the terms of his probation as he admitted to hitting a man who taunted him for testifying against his own gang.

Prosecutor Jonathan Rebold alleged that the victim mocked the rapper for snitching before he moved to assault them in a Florida Mall.

"Me and another individual hit a person, and it was wrong," he told Judge Paul Engelmeyer, per the New York Post.

Tekashi was then placed on supervised release with an ankle monitor.

According to TMZ, court documents showed that the "Gummo" musician was ordered to adhere to home confinement with an electronic monitor, but would be relaxed for getting out of the house for religious services, medical and mental health treatment, and court-ordered appearances.

In a phone call with NBC News, his lawyer, Lance Lazzaro, praised the decision not to send him to jail.

"I think the judge made the right call just for the fact that he's pending sentence, it would have been too drastic of a remedy to put him in jail," Lazzaro said.

The legal expert went further to state that the fight was not instigated by his client, but instead the said man was "taunting him and threatening to kill him and harm his family and calling him a rat."

"He went to a mall with his family, and a person who had a gun threatened him and called him a snitch and started a whole situation," Lazzaro said. "He has to live every day with people doing stupid things to him and provoking him, which clearly was the case here."
