Ja'Marr Chase may find himself in hot water later this week, as videos purporting to show him spitting on Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey during a November game have begun going viral.
Following the alleged incident, Ramsey retaliated by striking Chase on the helmet, leading to the former's ejection. Ramsey later explained his outburst, accusing Ja'Marr Chase of spitting on him—a claim the Cincinnati Bengals player has vehemently denied.

During the second half of the Steelers' matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, things grew testy between Ramsey and Chase after Chase appeared to spit at his opponent, according to social media videos.
Ramsey, understandably, had an intense reaction, striking Chase's helmet, grabbing him by the facemask, and yanking his head around before referees could intervene. He was later ejected.
Ja'Marr Chase Denies Spitting, Despite Videos Appearing To Show Otherwise

The explosive moment between Chase and Ramsey understandably captured the attention of many NFL fans, who wanted to learn more about the situation after the game.
During the post-game interview, Ramsey told reporters exactly what led to him hitting Chase on the field.
"He spit on me, so, it’s up,” Ramsey said, per NBC Sports. “It don’t give a f-ck about football after that. Respectfully."
Chase also spoke about the situation with reporters; however, he maintained his innocence despite several videos appearing to contradict him.
"I never opened my mouth to that guy," Chase said. "I didn't spit on nobody."

Ramsey's ejection was in line with the NFL rulebook; however, spitting should have resulted in Chase, an LSU alum and first-round NFL draft pick, being tossed from the competition as well.
Game referee Bill Vinovich confirmed during the post-game interview that he and the rest of the NFL officials didn't see Chase spit during the contest, and if they had, he would've likely had a similar fate.
"No. Obviously, we did not," he Vinovich said, per NBC Sports. "We did not see anything that rose to that level at all."

NFL fans also shared their reactions on social media, condemning the wide receiver for what they believed was reprehensible behavior. "That's crossing the line," someone wrote. "You don't spit on another man. That's going to hurt his reputation with his peers."
Another user chimed in, calling Chase a "certified scumbag." They continued, "Real men don't do p—y sh-t like spit on each other."
"Ja'Marr Chase is a liar!" a third user posted. "The video footage says otherwise! It all makes sense why Jalen Ramsey hit him! Chase was frustrated; he was SHUT DOWN all day by JPJ!"
And the criticism didn't end there, as several other users posted about how "disgusting" Chase's actions were.
"Spitting on someone is one of the most disgusting acts a person can commit. Absolutely no place for it any place in society," another netizen opined before a fifth user called for Chase's immediate suspension. "Ramsey had to sit out today ... it's only fair Chase has to sit out next week."
Spit-Gate Occurs Again In The NFL

While reprehensible, this isn't the first time this NFL season that a standout athlete has come under fire for spitting at another player.
According to The Blast, Philadelphia Eagles player Jalen Carter was ejected during the season's opener in early September 2025 for spitting at Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
Prescott got candid with reporters about the incident following the game, admitting to spitting "a thousand times throughout the game," but never at another person.
“I actually said words like, ‘Why the h-ll would I’ excuse me, but probably even more colorful ‘what would I need to spit on you for?’ He just spit on me in that moment, it was more of a surprise than anything,” Prescott said.
He slammed Carter for the disrespectful act; however, he also showed the 24-year-old a bit of grace, describing the fallout as an "unfortunate" situation.
Carter, too, spoke out after the game, describing his actions as a "mistake" before declaring he would never let it happen again. In his apology, he also referred to his teammates, saying, "You know, I'm doing it for them. I'm doing it for my family also but the fans, they show the most love."
"You heard them out there and not being able to start the game to finish the game just f-cks me up, but it won't happen again," he said.
