Food influencer and chef Michael Duarte, known to his nearly one million Instagram followers as @foodwithbearhands, was fatally shot by police earlier this month after a confrontation in Castroville, Texas. He was 36. According to the Medina County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a 911 call on November 8 about "a male subject with a knife acting erratically." The California-based content creator's death comes just days after celebrating his wedding anniversary with his wife, Jessica.

Officials told TMZ that Duarte allegedly approached officers "threateningly" and refused multiple commands to get on the ground. Moments later, he reportedly charged toward a deputy while shouting, "I'm going to kill you." The deputy fired two shots, striking Duarte.

He received medical attention at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A GoFundMe campaign has since been launched to help cover funeral expenses and bring the food influencer home to California. Funds will also support Jessica and their six-year-old daughter, Oakley. "We ask that you lift Michael's family up in prayer during this extremely difficult time," the fundraiser reads.
