Ex-Fox Anchor Charged With Murder After Mom Was Found Stabbed To Death On Halloween

A shocking tragedy has rocked Wichita, Kansas, after former Fox anchor Angelynn Mock was charged with the murder of her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers. According to police, officers responding to a 911 call on Halloween morning found Mock outside the home covered in blood and cuts, before discovering her mother had been fatally stabbed inside. On Tuesday, the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office officially charged Mock with first-degree murder. She is currently being held in Sedgwick County Jail on a $1 million bond, with her next court hearing scheduled for November 14. According to her LinkedIn profile, Mock previously worked as an anchor and reporter for Fox 2 in St. Louis, Missouri, from March 2011 to February 2015.

The Wichita Police Department confirmed that officers were dispatched in the early morning hours of October 31, where they encountered the former Fox anchor outside the residence, suffering from visible injuries.
"At approximately 7:52 a.m. on October 31, officers responded to a reported cutting at a residence in the 1500 block of East Crowley," the media release stated. "Upon arrival, officers located the suspect outside the home. Inside the residence, officers found Anita Avers unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds."
First responders rushed Avers to a local hospital, but she was later pronounced dead. Mock was also taken to the hospital for treatment before being taken into custody.
Neighbor Recalls Angelynn Mock Begging For Help While 'Covered in Blood'

Witnesses recounted a horrifying scene outside the home that morning. Alyssa Castro, a nearby resident, told KAKE News that the former Fox anchor approached her vehicle while covered in blood, pleading for help. "There was a woman who approached our vehicle with like blood, her hands were filled, her body was filled with blood, asking to call 911," Castro recalled.
She said Mock used her boyfriend's phone to call the police before running back into the house. Officers later returned the phone to the couple. "I asked her if she was okay, and she was pretty shaken up and seemed scared," Castro added. "She just ran off."

Friends and clients are mourning Anita Avers, who was a licensed marriage and family therapist at Wichita Counseling Professionals. Many remembered her for her warmth, empathy, and dedication to helping others.
One client, Alexandra Brewer, spoke fondly of Avers' kindness and support. "She was just very warm, very loving, and had a way of making you feel compassionate towards yourself," Brewer told KAKE. "She was there for you. I just wish everyone could see that part of Anita, not just this tragic ending."

According to her LinkedIn profile, Angelynn Mock built a career that spanned both journalism and corporate sales. Mock earned a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications and Speech Communication with a focus in Television Broadcasting from St. Cloud State University, where she was an active member of the Society of Professional Journalists.
She began as a broadcast journalist, spending more than a decade in television news before transitioning into business and technology sales. Mock's most notable on-air role was with KTVI Fox 2 in St. Louis, where she served as a morning anchor, primetime reporter, and fill-in evening anchor from 2011 to 2015. After leaving broadcasting, she worked in several sales and management roles, including Software Sales Account Manager at CrossChx and Regional Sales Manager at Security Card Services.

Former Fox Anchor Remains In Custody As Investigation Into Mother's Murder Continues

As of now, authorities have not released a motive for the alleged attack. Police confirmed that Mock remains in custody, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
During her court appearance last week, Mock was formally read her charges and ordered held on a $1 million bond. Her next hearing is set for November 14.
