WNBA superstar Angel Reese has sparked a bit of controversy online after sharing critical comments about therapy, despite never attending a session.

Reese's comments came during a portion of her podcast, "Unapologetically Angel," where she spoke with rapper Monaleo about her belief that mental health professionals aren't always honest with celebrity clients because they can't understand their point of view.

Angel Reese has sparked conversation before, notably after paying off her mother's mortgage in 2025 shortly after claiming the WNBA didn't pay her enough to cover her bills.

Angel Reese Shares Critical Comments About Therapists Despite Never Attending

Reese's "Unapologetically Angel" podcast has featured many high-profile guests, including NBA stars, award-winning actors, and trending rappers.

The latest episode featured a lengthy conversation with rapper Monaleo, who gained prominence after releasing her viral hit, "Putting Ya Dine."

During their conversation, the two women opened up about the pressures of fame, and that's when Reese made an interesting comment about therapy, suggesting that traditional therapists wouldn't be helpful to celebrities because of their different backgrounds.

"No one will understand what we go through [as celebrities]," Reese said. "You talking to a therapist and paying a therapist and telling them your problems, they're gonna tell you what you want to hear. But they're not really gonna ever understand, especially at the level we're at."

It didn't take long for Monaleo to clap back and offer her perspective on therapists, urging the Chicago Sky star to try it herself before providing such a strong take.

"You would be surprised," Monaleo said. "Number one, [therapists] have a way and a method [of] psycho-analyzing and making sense of a lot of things that don't make sense to you in your mind."

As she continued, Monaleo suggested that Reese find a mental health professional who could help her "connect the dots" in a way that made sense to her. She also reminded Reese, 23, that therapists don't have to be famous to offer genuine help.

"I try not to add that added layer because I don't feel like they have to understand that to help me get from point A to point B," Monaleo finished.

Social media users responded almost immediately to Reese's comments about therapy, expressing their frustration with the rising star's uninformed stance on an instrumental tool in many people's lives.

"She ain't never been to therapy but has the nerve to say that," someone wrote. "I'm so glad she was corrected."

"Speaking negatively on therapy and you've never been is odd," another said.

"Girl, my therapist actually never tells me what I want to hear," a third user posted.

"Therapy is so healing and helpful if you actually do the work," a fourth added.

Reese Sparked Controversy Earlier This Year

This, of course, isn't the first time Reese has sparked controversy among netizens, according to The Blast.

In early 2025, the LSU alum turned heads when she revealed during a social media livestream that her nearly $80,000 WNBA salary wasn't enough to pay her bills.

She generated even more conversation months later when she revealed on her podcast that she had paid off her mother's mortgage and offered to retire her mother from work if she wanted.

"Is this the same person who said they couldn't afford to pay their rent?" someone asked on X, formerly Twitter.

However, another user jumped in to defend the NCAA National Champ, saying that what she did for her family was a major accomplishment that couldn't be diminished.

Aside from her podcast, Reese has been keeping busy this offseason, from appearing in Netflix films with Idris Elba to making her Victoria's Secret Fashion Show debut.

That's right, the 6'3" power forward was seen strutting her stuff in early October as an official VS Angel, wings and all.

She opened up about the unique experience in a previous interview, according to The Blast, describing the event as a "surreal and full-circle moment."

"I literally could not stop smiling!" she said. "It’s such a surreal and full-circle moment, just last year I was in the audience manifesting being on that runway, completely inspired and in awe of all the powerful women walking down the runway, and now I get to return as an Angel. This will be an unforgettable night that I’ll forever be grateful for."
