How Jimmy Kimmel's Wife Navigates the 'Strain' of 'Fighting' Donald Trump

The bad blood between President Donald Trump and Jimmy Kimmel extends to the latter’s family members as well. 

Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNearny, recently opened up about navigating life while being at odds with the president. She revealed that the strain between her husband and Trump has also hurt her relationship with some of her family members. 

Trump publicly celebrated when the TV personality’s show was briefly pulled from the airwaves. He also expressed disappointment after it was reinstated. 

Kimmel’s wife was recently featured on an episode of the “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast, where she  opened up about the impact Trump’s administration has had on her life and her family. 

McNearny, who has been married to Kimmel for 12 years, said, “It hurts me so much because of the personal relationship I now have where my husband is out there fighting this man.” 

She opened up about not being pleased when some of her closest allies voted for Trump despite her repeated pleas to them. To her, it was a direct attack on her family and a downright betrayal. 

“To me, them voting for Trump is them not voting for my husband and me and our family. And I unfortunately have kind of lost relationships with people in my family because of it," she said.

“It's definitely caused a strain. I've definitely pulled in closer with the family that I feel more aligned with. And I hate that this has happened," she added.

McNearny reflected on not being on good terms with the president, noting that it was bigger than a political affair, but it had extended into family issues. She explained that despite coming from a “very conservative Republican” family, she found herself disagreeing with Trump’s administration. In her words:

“This is not just Republican versus Democrat for me anymore. It is to me family values, and it's really hard for me because I grew up believing in these Christian ideals of taking care of the sick and taking care of the poor.”

She further noted that with the current Republican party, she feels like she’s “in constant conflict,” which makes her “angry all the time.” 

McNearny’s comments come shortly after her husband opened up about how the suspension of his show affected him and his family.

The 57-year-old host revealed that after the suspension, “We get to the house, and we're shaken,” per The Blast.

He explained that in the days that followed, he remained silent and stayed away from the media, and it felt like “three days in jail.” He couldn’t do anything but sit quietly, make phone calls, and take phone calls, and it further added to the uneasiness he felt. 

Still reflecting on the ABC suspension, Kimmel opened up about the heartbreaking moment he learned that his show was pulled off the airwaves. 

He described it as an “emotional rollercoaster,” recalling how the network called him and told him that they wanted to “take the temperature down.”

They then expressed concerns about what he was going to say on the show and decided that the best route was to take it off air.

Kimmel’s wife, who is also a writer on the show, saw how pale he looked after the meeting. Opening up to McNearny, Kimmel told her that there was a possibility his career was over. 

Although Kimmel’s suspension came as a shock to everyone around him, it was a pleasant surprise for President Donald Trump.

As such, when the show was reinstated, the president openly opposed it and threatened to sue the network for bringing the TV host back. 

Despite being opposed by the president, Kimmel shared that he wouldn’t mind having him as a guest on the show. According to The Blast, he said he would “love to have Trump on the show,” adding, “I feel like he knows that. Alright, yeah, I'll ask him.”

Although the Trump suspension fiasco is over, there is still a lot of mystery surrounding “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” as a new episode of the show was recently canceled unexpectedly. 

As The Blast reported, an episode of the show was set to air on Thursday night; however, it was pulled just hours before it went on air.

The episode was slated to feature Joe Keery, Madison Beer, and David Duchovny, but instead, an older episode aired in its place. 

This abrupt decision left the audience and fans uncertain about the show’s future. Notably, ABC is yet to comment on the abrupt cancellation.
