Anne Heche’s estate is now seeing a light at the end of the tunnel after being riddled with debts following her death.
The court appointed her eldest son, Homer Laffoon, as the administrator of her estate, despite objections from her former partner, James Tupper.
Though managing her complex and financially-burdened affairs proved challenging, Laffoon has now made significant progress, bringing stability and closure to what was once a financially troubled estate.
How Anne Heche's Son Took Charge of a Debt-Laden Legacy

With multiple third-party claims arising from the crash that killed Heche putting a monetary strain on her affairs, her son Laffoon has reportedly agreed on a deal with the creditors, per US Weekly.
However, he has now asked the court, through a filing on November 3, for six more months to finalize things. According to the document, his lawyer explained that the circumstances leading to Heche's passing created complex legal challenges, forcing Laffoon to spend a lot of time reviewing the lawsuits and negotiating settlements.
The attorney then confirmed that Laffoon "has secured a tentative agreement that will need Court approval, once finalized.” He added that they are "cautiously optimistic" that all the claims can be settled without going to court.

The latest development is a significant progress compared to Laffoon’s March 21 report, where he told the court that the estate was not ready to be finalized due to several important issues.
According to The Blast, Laffoon cited missing or incomplete records, which made it difficult to account for all of his mother's assets and sources of income.
Although Heche had multiple income streams, including earnings from film, a production corporation, a podcast venture, and various personal belongings, her poor recordkeeping made them hard to track.
Laffoon also mentioned that another issue the estate was dealing with was the suits with creditors demanding over $6 million.
Inside Anne Heche's Estate Drama As Son Declared Insolvent

While Laffoon explained why it is taking time to settle his late mother’s matter, he disclosed last year that she did not leave behind significant wealth.
According to his court filing, which The Blast obtained, Heche's total assets, including the money in her bank account, earnings from projects completed before her death, personal belongings, and small amounts from other ventures, all add up to just about $110,000.
However, the claims filed against the estate far exceeded that amount. At the center of these demands are lawsuits from the woman whose home Heche crashed into and the property's owners, who are collectively seeking about $6 million in damages.
In addition, her former boyfriend, Thomas Jane, alleged he lent her $157,000 in 2022 under an agreement for monthly repayments that ceased after only two installments. Heche also reportedly had over $36,000 in unpaid credit card debt, adding to the estate's mounting obligations.
The ‘Men In Trees’ Star Died From A Fatal Accident

Heche's life was cut short after a devastating car crash in August 2022. According to the fire department, her vehicle burst into flames and came to rest about 30 feet inside a two-story building after the high-speed collision, per The Blast.
The 53-year-old actress suffered severe injuries from the impact and, despite being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital, she was pronounced dead a week later.
An autopsy report confirmed that traces of drugs were found in her system, but they were not active enough to have affected her driving at the time of the crash.
The report identified benzoylecgonine, an inactive byproduct of cocaine, which indicates past use but no current intoxication. Nine months later, she was laid to rest in a private ceremony at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles.
Anne Heche’s Memoir Debuted By Son Homer Laffoon

Following the “Spread” star’s demise, Laffoon ensured that her final creative work, a memoir she completed before her passing, was published.
Per The Blast, Laffoon announced in an emotional Instagram post that the book, titled Call Me Anne, will be published posthumously and offered fans a first look at its cover.
He described the memoir as the product of his mother's desire to share her story and inspire others, expressing that he was proud to continue what she started.
