Riley Keough says her late mother, Lisa Marie Presley, is still finding ways to reach her from the other side. Nearly two years after Lisa Marie’s sudden death, the "Daisy Jones & The Six" actress is opening up about the eerie, “too weird to ignore” signs she believes come directly from her mom, and how those moments have helped her heal through grief, loss, and family turmoil. Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, passed away in January 2023 at age 54 from complications related to bariatric surgery. Her death came just three years after the suicide of her only son, Benjamin Keough, and sparked a wave of heartbreak, as well as legal battles, across one of Hollywood’s most iconic families. Now, Riley Keough says she’s found comfort in something she can’t quite explain.

Promoting the paperback release of her memoir "From Here to the Great Unknown," Riley told PEOPLE that she continues to feel her mother’s presence in surprising ways. “I think if you're open to those things, they're kind of everywhere,” she said. “I really do believe that. I certainly feel connected to whatever that world may be. There are certainly moments that are very... too weird to not be something.”

Lisa Marie’s passing left behind three daughters, Riley, 36, whom she shared with Danny Keough, and twins Harper and Finley, 17, from her marriage to Michael Lockwood. Her death also reopened old wounds within the Presley family.

In the months that followed, Riley became embroiled in a public legal dispute with her grandmother, Priscilla Presley, over control of Lisa Marie’s estate. While the case was eventually settled, the tension only deepened when Priscilla became the subject of a financial feud with her former advisers, one that included a shocking claim that she “pulled the plug” on her daughter prematurely.

Amid the chaos, Riley has leaned into spirituality as a way to stay grounded and to keep her mother close.

This isn’t the first time Riley has said she’s felt Lisa Marie’s presence. During a 2024 interview on "The Drew Barrymore Show," she revealed that she somehow sensed her mother’s death before getting the call.

“I just had a feeling,” she recalled. “There had been incidents before, you know, health incidents, and I didn’t have the same feeling. I felt this sort of surrender in the moment and had a little bit of a sense.”

Riley also believes her mother died from more than just medical complications. “My mom physically died from the after effects of her surgery, but we all knew she died of a broken heart,” she previously told PEOPLE, referring to Lisa Marie’s devastation following Benjamin’s death.

Lisa Marie Presley, the only daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, died on January 12, 2023, at the age of 54. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, her official cause of death was a small bowel obstruction, a blockage in the intestines, caused by complications from bariatric surgery she had undergone years earlier.

The autopsy report described the obstruction as severe enough to restrict blood flow, ultimately leading to organ failure. Toxicology findings showed therapeutic levels of prescription medication, but no sign of drug abuse.

Her sudden passing sent shockwaves through Hollywood and the music world, coming just two days after she appeared alongside her mother at the Golden Globe Awards, where Austin Butler won for portraying her father in "Elvis."

Though the Presley family legacy has faced turmoil, Riley’s focus remains on preserving her mother’s spirit — not just through her words, but through what she believes are subtle messages from beyond.

“There are moments that are just too weird to not be something,” she said.

And for Riley, those “weird signs” aren’t frightening; they’re comforting reminders that love, even after loss, doesn’t end.
