Social media personality and Barstool Sports president Dave Portnoy didn't hold back when sharing his thoughts on NFL legend Tom Brady's revelation that he cloned his dog, Lua, who died in 2023. Portnoy reacted to the bizarre decision on social media after the Super Bowl champion praised the biotech company that helped preserve his late pup's legacy in November 2025. And he wasn't alone, as many social media users also shared disheartened reactions to Brady's announcement, questioning why the 48-year-old chose to clone rather than adopt. This isn't the first time Portnoy has been critical of Brady, either, as he slammed the athlete just months ago, branding him a "money wh-re."

As previously reported by The Blast, Brady opened up about his decision to clone his late pit bull, Lua, who died in 2023.

The father of three partnered with a biotech company that he invests in, Colossal Biosciences, which helped him replicate his former pup.

Brady's new dog is named Junie, and Portnoy's reaction on X, formerly Twitter, to the revelation was blunt, calling it "weird as f-ck."

Colossal Biosciences also acquired Viagen, the same tech company that gained prominence for helping Barbra Streisand and Paris Hilton clone their dogs in 2017 and 2022, respectively.

To accomplish this, Viagen relies on its "exclusive licensing and access to the breakthrough technologies" developed by the Roslin Institute of Edinburgh, which famously cloned Dolly the Sheep in the '90s.

Viagen has reportedly cloned more than 15 species, including the endangered black-footed ferret, and "holds a vast bank of genetic material from threatened species such as white and black rhinos."

According to a report by Marca, dog cloning through Viagen typically costs between $50,000 and $85,000.

Tom Brady Boasts About His 'Love' For Animals

Brady later reflected on his decision to clone his dog, explaining it stemmed from a desire to help his family cope with the tragic loss of their beloved pet.

"I love my animals. They mean the world to me and my family," he said. "A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our family's elderly dog before she passed. The company gave my family a second chance with a clone of our beloved dog."

The former Patriots player's explanation wasn't met with universal praise, however, as many users online blasted him for cloning his dog rather than rescuing one in need.

"When there are countless dogs that need homes? Homeless dogs being euthanized at shelters? Wtf is wrong with people!" one user wrote. "The amount of animals that could have been rescued or given medical help with the money he must have spent on this makes me so, so sad," another added.

Portnoy Has Come For Brady Before

Portnoy's critical post isn't the first time the outspoken personality has stirred up trouble with the NFL superstar.

As previously reported by The Blast, Portnoy took aim at the baller in September 2025, slamming him for allegedly accepting a $75 million check to "unretire" and play flag football with Fanatics in Saudi Arabia.

"Brady's a wh-re, a money wh-re, like he's doing everything and I don't think he's kinda found his lane," Portnoy said during an appearance on the "Unnamed Show." "Having said that, I don't know that there's anyone who would turn down that much money for one second."

Brady wasted no time firing back at Portnoy's comments after he mentioned the story again during his "Wake Up Barstool" show, implying that Portnoy's reporting was wildly inaccurate.

"Who cares about facts, right?" Brady said before adding, "Are we just picking numbers out of a hat and reporting them?"

"While we're breaking news... Elvis is doing the halftime show, and Babe Ruth is gonna sign some autographs for fans," Brady continued before throwing fun shade at Portnoy, saying, "Also, I heard Dave prefers floppy pizza."

While the exact figure Brady will earn for his appearance in Saudi Arabia remains unknown, it's believed he'll earn an impressive paycheck, given that Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority has no problem doling out big bucks to top talent.
