Drake Named In Spotify Class Action Lawsuit For Accumulating Billions Of Fraudulent Streams

Drake has found himself in some hot legal drama yet again!
The rapper and singer has been accused of artificially manipulating his Spotify streams and has allegedly benefited from millions of dollars from the fraudulent scheme.
This comes barely a month after Drake lost the defamation lawsuit he brought against Universal Music Group (UMG). He accused the record label of allegedly contributing to false narratives about him by promoting Kendrick Lamar’s “They Not Like Us.”
Drake Has Been Accused Of Using Bot Accounts To Boost His Music Streams

Aubrey Drake Graham, more popularly known as Drake, was named in a class-action lawsuit against Spotify.
The lawsuit alleges that the streaming platform has intentionally turned a blind eye to the streaming fraud allegedly going on the platform.
Eric Dwayne Collins (RBX), who also happens to be Snoop Dog’s cousin, accused Spotify of allowing royalties to be siphoned from other artists and given to undeserving ones.
He alleged that “between January 2022 and September 2025, a substantial, non-trivial percentage of Drake’s ~37,000,000,000 streams on Spotify during that timeframe were inauthentic and appeared to be the work of a sprawling network of Bot Accounts.”
Collins accused Drake of using VPNs to keep the origin of his streams a secret. He claimed that in 2024, at least 250,000 streams of Drake’s “No Face” came from Turkey but were fraudulently geo-mapped to the United Kingdom.
He also added that “Drake’s music accumulated far higher total streams compared to other highly-streamed artists, even though those artists had far more 'users’ than Drake.” As such, “the amount of streaming revenue that would otherwise have been distributed to legitimate Rights Holders but for the fraudulent boosting of Drake’s music is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars,” the lawsuit stated.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that although Drake wasn’t named as a defendant, he was the only artist mentioned as one of the beneficiaries of the fraudulent streams.
According to the lawsuit, which was filed in a federal California court on Sunday, Spotify has allegedly refused to curb the fraudulent streams because it’s trying to “grow the business and increase stock prices.”
“The more users (including fake users) Spotify has, the more advertisements it can sell, the more profits the company can report, all of which serves to increase the purported value delivered to shareholders,” the lawsuit read.
Spotify Denied Benefiting From Fraudulent Streams

Although Drake is yet to comment on the brewing legal drama, a representative for Spotify has spoken up.
The rep said that while the streaming platform cannot “comment on pending litigation,” it “in no way benefits from the industry-wide challenge of artificial streaming.”
The spokesperson added that Spotify prides itself on state-of-the-art systems that remove fake streams to ensure that each artist’s payout is fair. As such, they clearly refuted the notion that the streaming platform is benefiting from fake streams.
Drake Lost The Legal Battle Against Universal Music Group (UMG)

The class-action lawsuit that mentions Drake comes over four weeks after the songwriter lost his battle against UMG.
In January 2025, Drake filed a defamation lawsuit against UMG for allegedly supporting Kendrick Lamar’s defamatory statements in the latter’s song. However, in October, the presiding judge dismissed the case.
According to The Blast, the case was thrown out because Drake has no right to sue over song lyrics.
After the ruling was made, a spokesperson for Drake revealed that the rapper is not going down without a fight. The representative said that the rapper’s legal team intends to “appeal today's ruling, and we look forward to the Court of Appeals reviewing it."
UMG Slams Drake For Trying To ‘Salve His Wounds’ After He ‘Lost A Rap Battle’

Before the case between UMG and Drake was thrown out, the record label accused the singer of simply being bitter over losing a rap battle that he started.
The label stated that the 39-year-old rapper “lost a rap battle that he provoked and in which he willingly participated," noting that he only sued the company in an attempt to “salve his wounds,” per The Blast.
UMG also brought to light a time when Drake signed a petition that discouraged the use of rap lyrics in legal proceedings. The company then accused Drake of not standing by his own view on artistic freedom and condemned him for being contradictory by suing the record label.

Legal trouble aside, Drake also faced challenges in his businesses recently. The “Find Your Love” singer’s flagship store in New York City was vandalized by a woman in August.
According to The Blast, the woman used a hammer to damage the property, causing losses that totaled $23,400. The perpetrator also attempted to set the store on fire using a lighter and an aerosol can.
The attacker was later identified as 31-year-old Shauner Stoner, and she was arrested and scheduled for arraignment.
