Actress Sydney Sweeney is not being bothered by the American Eagle campaign backlash, especially since the company is doing better than ever following the campaign controversy. The ad featured a play on the words “jeans” and “genes,” which some have claimed promoted eugenics. Even though she was silent for months, the “Euphoria” star finally broke her silence.

Sydney Is  'Not Going to Be Affected' by What People Say

On Tuesday, November 4, GQ published a wide-ranging interview with “The White Lotus” star, in which she talked about her criticism surrounding her American Eagle ad campaign, which featured controversy over the use of the term “jeans.”

Sydney Wasn’t ‘Thankful’ For Donald Trump’s Support

Although she received support from U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance after the ad was criticized online, she explained that she didn’t feel “thankful” for their support.

"It’s not that I didn’t have that feeling, but I wasn’t thinking of it like that, of any of it,” she said, describing the feeling as “surreal.”

"I kind of just put my phone away. I was filming every day. I’m filming Euphoria, so I’m working 16-hour days, and I don’t really bring my phone on set, so I work and then I go home and I go to sleep. So I didn’t really see a lot of it," she added.

American Eagle Saw A Sales Boost Following The Campaign

Even though many called for a boycott of the brand, she said that she was “aware” that the company’s numbers actually went up. "So when I saw all the headlines of in-store visits were down a certain percentage, none of it was true,” she said.

“It was all made up, but nobody could say anything because [the company was] in their quiet period,” she explained. “So it was all just a lot of talk. And because I knew at the end of the day what that ad was for, and it was great jeans, it didn’t affect me one way or the other.”

"I know who I am. I know what I value. I know that I’m a kind person. I know that I love a lot, and I know that I’m just excited to see what happens next. And so I don’t really let other people define who I am," she added.
