Gloria Estefan's Daughter's Partner Arrested In Connection With Domestic Violence

Gloria Estefan's daughter, Emily Estefan, is facing a difficult moment after her girlfriend of over eight years, Gemeny Hernandez, was arrested in Miami on October 28.

The iconic singer's daughter, who followed in her famous parents' musical footsteps, has long shared both her life and podcast mic with Gemeny.

Gloria Estefan's daughter, Emily, and Gemeny Hernandez began dating in 2016 and have often expressed their love publicly, appearing inseparable in social media posts.

Hernandez was taken into custody in Miami after an argument reportedly turned physical. The dispute allegedly began over a cellphone and escalated into a struggle that left the victim with minor injuries.

An arrest affidavit states that Hernandez and the victim have been in a relationship for about eight years and live together. The document details that Hernandez allegedly grabbed the victim's phone "from her hand and struck the victim with the cellphone."

It also states that Hernandez continued to struggle for control after the victim tried to retrieve it. The victim reportedly sustained a bruise near her left eye and scratches on her neck before calling 911.

Hernandez denied taking the phone but admitted to being involved in the altercation, PEOPLE reported. She was arrested on October 28 and charged with felony strong-arm robbery and misdemeanor battery. Jail records show she posted a $3,000 bond.

Before recent headlines, Emily and her longtime partner were known for their strong relationship and creative teamwork. 

The couple, who have been together since 2016, often appeared side by side at red carpet events, including one earlier this year for the Con Cora Foundation, where they posed with Emily's parents. 

In 2022, they collaborated professionally to launch a podcast highlighting their shared interests. Emily's bio described their connection as both a life and business partnership.

Their affection for each other was clear on social media, too. Just last November, Hernandez shared a touching tribute celebrating nearly eight years together, writing about how love evolves over time and calling Emily "beautiful."

Gloria's daughter's recent situation comes months after the older legend opened up about one of the most heartfelt conversations she has ever had: when Emily came out to her as gay.

The legendary singer told PEOPLE that while the moment was emotional, her love for Emily never wavered. Raised Catholic, Gloria said she has always believed that no one should be told who they can or cannot love. "She's Emily, and that was always the case," she shared.

At the time, Emily was preparing to release her debut album, and Gloria admitted she wanted to protect her from being boxed in too soon.

"I told her, 'Listen, are you 100% sure this is how you feel? I'll get on that parade float with you. But in the meantime, why don't you put your music without any labels on it at all?'" she recalled.

Looking back, Gloria says her advice came from both a mother's heart and a mentor's care, but ultimately, she stood by her daughter completely.

Emily is carrying on her family's musical legacy while carving out her own path in the industry. The 30-year-old is the daughter of legendary musicians Gloria and Emilio Estefan and the younger sister of Nayib Estefan, 44.

As reported by SCMP, Emily studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music before launching her own music career. Her voice and songwriting style blend modern soul with her family's Latin roots, creating a sound that is uniquely her own.

She has featured on several family projects, including the Estefan Family Christmas album. In 2017, she released her debut album, "Take Whatever You Want," showcasing her range as a musician and producer.

In July, Emily hit the road with pop legend Cyndi Lauper, proving that music truly runs in the Estefan family.

Aside from Emily's situation, Gloria last made headlines for the release of her new album. The project, "Raíces,"  takes her back to her roots and straight to the heart of family. The legendary songwriter poured her soul into the album, which celebrates heritage, love, and the people who have shaped her life.

The Blast shared that while her husband Emilio wrote much of the record, Gloria contributed one deeply personal piece, a touching ballad titled "My Beautiful Boy (For Sasha)." She first wrote the song years ago during a quiet moment in Vero Beach after saying goodbye to her grandson, Sasha.

She said the emotional track finally found its home on "Raíces," fitting perfectly into the album's message of family and connection.
