New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields got extremely candid while speaking with reporters following his first win of the NFL season on Sunday, October 26. Fields and the Jets defeated the Bengals 39-38 this past Sunday, giving the struggling franchise its first win of the 2025 NFL season.
For Fields, 26, the win was overwhelming after he dealt with unexpected challenges throughout the season's first few weeks, and he candidly told reporters all about it.
"I'm going to get pretty vulnerable right here," he said. "This week, I found myself in my closet crying on the ground. Laying down. Not because of the hardships, not because of the hardships, not because of the troubles. I felt like I was built to handle that and I was put in place to handle this situation."
The Jets' Owner Questioned Justin Fields

Fields' emotional statements came just days after New York Jets owner Woody Johnson publicly criticized the quarterback's performance during an NFL meeting in late October.
"It’s hard when you have a quarterback with the rating that we’ve got," Johnson told reporters. "He has the ability, but something is not jiving. If you look at any head coach with a quarterback like that, you are going to see similar results across the league."
When asked for his thoughts on Johnson's comments, Fields brushed them off, referring to them as "outside noise."
"I get that he’s the owner of the team, but that’s outside noise," he said. "The biggest thing was my teammates believing in me and my coaches still believing in me."

After Sunday's game, Fields, who signed a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets in March 2025, recalled "d-mn near crying " on the field after their victory.
"Not because we won, but just because of the goodness of God," he said, explaining he's gone through many "ups and downs."
Thankfully, the starting QB "got a lot of support from my teammates ... from my family, from my friends," he said. "Most of all, I'm just thankful."
Fields also shared that an "encouraging text" he received from his sister, telling him to "keep going and keep spreading the faith," also motivated him to keep pushing.

Fields wasn't the only Jets player ecstatic about their team's first victory of the season. Jets safety Isaiah Oliver spoke positively about his young quarterback, admitting he could tell the pressure had been getting to the Georgia native.
"It seemed like the world was kind of crashing in around him, and he just went out there with football in his mind, locked in, played a hell of a game and led us to the win," Oliver said. "He was vocal on the sideline all week during practice. None of that changed who he was."
Injuries Have Halted Some Teams' Plans

And while the Jets are likely still reeling after their surprising win over Cincinnati, their neighboring rivals, the New York Giants, have faced a series of unfortunate events that have sidelined key players.
According to a previous report from The Blast, rookie running back Cam Skattebo was carted off the field on Sunday and required emergency surgery after dislocating his ankle during their game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Skattebo's teammates and coaches were clearly shaken by the injury and shared their thoughts with reporters.
"Yeah, I was devastated," Giants QB Jaxson Dart said. "It's my boy, man. So seeing him go down and obviously reacting to what happened, that sucks."
He continued, "It's the worst part of this game."
Head coach Brian Daboll shared a similar reaction, admitting he felt "terrible" for the bright young star. "Obviously, saw it. Looked bad. You feel for anybody on your team that goes down and has a really bad injury. I feel and I know the players feel the same way about Skatt."
Skattebo updated his followers on X, formerly Twitter, following his surgery, thanking them for their support before teasing his comeback.
"This is just the beginning of my journey and I can’t wait to show you guys all about it!!!" he wrote. "GOD has a plan for me , stick the course and it will all work itself out , BRB."
