The 83-year-old media executive confessed that when his romance with Von Fürstenberg began, he “never questioned that its biological imperative was as strong in its heterosexuality as its opposite had been. When it happened, my initial response was, ‘Who knew?’”

“I would live with silence, but not with hypocrisy,” Diller said. Looking back on these said rules, the business executive noted that they were “the opposite of courage.”

Months after Diller opened up about his sexuality, his wife, in an interview with Variety, explained that she “encouraged” him to share his truth in his memoir “Who Knew.”
The fashion mogul noted that Diller’s book was not simply about his sexuality but also about his “life.”
As for her reaction to his coming out, she revealed that for 50 years she had been a confidant to Diller, and he had always opened up to her about his struggles, so the revelation was not a shock to her.
When asked what it was like to be married to a gay man, Von Fürstenberg simply answered, “What’s the difference? I don’t understand. It doesn’t change anything. I’m sorry– it’s a stupid question.”
