The year was 2020. A new, super cool app called ‘Quibi’ had just launched.
At the same time of its a launch, a global pandemic had taken over. While many thought the pandemic would run its course in a month or so, that wasn’t the case.
The world would go into lockdown for over a year and Quibi wouldn’t get its chance at becoming a game-changer in the mobile world. The company closed its doors after seven months; however, when Quibi shut down Roku took over its original programming.
For those of you unfamiliar, Quibi was a mobile-first application that had a rolodex of shows with high profile celebrities attached to them. Quibi offered “bite sized” shows that were less than 10-minutes long all to be viewed on a mobile phone.
Quibi never had a chance!
Among the celebrities who had a Quibi show that never got the chance to premiere was Demi Lovato.
Now, Demi and their Quibi show are getting a new home!
The “Sorry Not Sorry” singer’s newly titled show, “The Demi Lovato Show,” will premiere in one month on Roku.
The series was first announced in February 2020 and was formerly titled, “Pillow Talk with Demi Lovato.”
Their short form talk show will feature 10-minute episodes with celebrity guests and experts, discussing topics such as police reform, feminism, Trans rights, sex positivity, mental health, and UFOs.
In a statement Demi said, “Some conversations can be difficult, but I’ve never been one to shy away from speaking candidly about things.”
They continued, “We wanted to create a space that normalizes living your own truth – where people can speak, engage and more importantly, learn, together. There’s something therapeutic about having raw discussions that people can relate to and with The Demi Lovato Show no topics are off limits and opinions are welcome. I’m so excited for people to see how these conversations unfold on The Roku Channel.”
They’re Roku Ready!
Roku’s Head of Original Alternative Programming, Brian Tannenbaum, said of the pop-star, “Demi Lovato is a voice of a generation and we’re beyond excited to elevate their voice with new audiences. With such a singular talent at the forefront of “The Demi Lovato Show,” there’s never been a better time to have honest, frank discussions in a fun, approachable and unfiltered format. We’re thrilled to be able to share these conversations with the millions of engaged streamers on The Roku Channel.”
Demi’s show is slated to premiere on July 30 on The Roku Channel. It is produced by Demi, Scooter Braun, Alison Kaye and more.
