"They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep — 'Oh, you're awake?' — with a knife in her hand," he claimed. "Then she'd turn around and pad off without explanation."

Federline took things a step further by asking Spears' fans to support her and their sons, writing, "I've been their buffer for years, but now it's bigger than me. It's time to sound the alarm."

Spears has always had a complicated relationship with her sons. Following her mental health crisis in 2008, her father, Jamie, placed her under a 13-year conservatorship, which gave him, and later other conservators, legal control over the singer's personal and financial affairs.

In her 2023 memoir, Spears explained that she has done everything in her power to have a relationship with them, but didn't fight the conservatorship just to be reunited with them.

"My freedom in exchange for naps with my children—it was a trade I was willing to make," she wrote. "There is nothing I love more—nothing more important to me on this earth—than my children. I'd lay down my life for them."
