An excerpt from the book, obtained by the New York Times, details the alleged incident, which the dancer claimed left the children frightened.
“They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep — ‘Oh, you’re awake?’ — with a knife in her hand,” Federline alleged in the book about the pop star.
“Then she’d turn around and pad off without explanation,” he added about the incident.
The former dancer also revealed that the incident made his children hesitant to return to Spears’ home.
However, he did not disclose when the event took place, though his account suggests that he and the singer were already separated at the time.

The excerpt also shed light on Federline’s apparent thoughts regarding Spears’ recent string of erratic behavior.
In the past few months, the singer has been posting bizarre, risqué photos online and was reportedly involved in a scandal with a private jet service.
“The truth is, this situation with Britney feels like it’s racing toward something irreversible. It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK,” he shared.
Now, his “biggest fear” is that their sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, could be the ones most affected by the fallout from such a breakdown.

Spears’ past mental health struggles resulted in her losing custody of her children, and their relationship became even more strained during her conservatorship.

“From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour,” said Federline. “Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.”

With Spears appearing to be spiraling out of control, her family has voiced concern about the situation.
A source within Spears’ family recently told Page Six that they are “worried” about the singer and “terrified for her future.”
“Her house is a mess,” the insider further remarked, referencing a viral video of the singer’s house that showed dog poop left unattended on the floor.
They added, “She doesn’t clean up after the dogs, she doesn’t have someone there cleaning every day, and she just isn’t functioning like an adult would function.”
Following the backlash over the dog poop video, Spears came out to defend herself on Instagram, writing, “Shame on those who judged my home in my pajamas !!”
Sources Slam Lack of Post-Conservatorship Support For Britney Spears
Amid the situation, insiders have speculated that getting Spears the help she needs would be difficult because she is no longer under her conservatorship.
More importantly, they noted that ending the conservatorship without establishing any system to prevent her from spiraling out of control was improper.
“She is a free woman, and because a judge never looked at her medical history when they freed her from this conservatorship, we’re seeing what this looks like in the public eye right now,” said a source to the outlet.
The source continued, “We try to help and support, but ultimately, you can only lead the horse to water. There is no continued care program [since] she got out of the conservatorship.”
With Spears reportedly not believing “she has a problem,” it is further unlikely that she will agree to a mental evaluation, according to the insider.
