In a story by PEOPLE, Tina confessed that she was fully aware that Ike Sr.'s conduct would leave a lasting impression on them, leaving them scarred for years in multiple ways.
However, despite this strict upbringing and experience, the singer praised her children for surviving the bad experiences and growing up to be good kids. Her late son admitted during a 2000 interview that the singer made sure to raise them because it brought her great personal happiness.
Craig continued that she made them commit to doing their chores diligently, and she was very strict with compliance and accountability.

A few months before her death, Tina confessed that her high blood pressure diagnosis in 1978 ultimately led to complications for her kidneys because she was rather unserious about her health.
The Blast reported that Tina advised her fans and everyone around her to pay extra attention to their kidney health and not wait till things go out of hand before seeking solutions.
"My kidneys are victims of my not realising that my high blood pressure should have been treated with conventional medicine," the late star wrote at the time in celebration of International World Kidney Day.
The singer expressed regret that for years she put herself in great danger by refusing to accept the reality that she needed "daily, lifelong therapy with medication." Tina added that she believed her body was a fortress for the longest time, but things had gotten out of hand before she woke from her slumber.
