More details have emerged about Terence Crawford's dramatic police traffic stop, which saw him detained at gunpoint.
In a statement to an outlet, Qasim Shabazz, Crawford's head of security, claimed that the police escalated the incident and that the boxer and his entourage feared for their lives during the stop.
Videos of the incident involving Terence Crawford have since gone viral, and the Omaha Police Department has released a statement and initiated an investigation.
The Police Reportedly Lied About The Boxer's Actions During The Incident

Terence Crawford was forced to break his celebratory mood after his historic win against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez due to a traffic incident with the Omaha police that occurred over the weekend.
In the wake of the video going viral, the boxer's head of security, Qasim Shabazz, has given insight into what happened, which appears to contradict the statement made by one of the department's officials.
According to ABC7's local Omaha affiliate, KETV, one of the officers said that during Crawford's attempt to retrieve his documents, including his license and registration, the officer at the scene spotted a gun by his feet.
However, Shabazz claimed that Crawford had told the officer, when asked for the documents, that he did not have them on him.
"He had already told them. So there was no reason for him to reach for anything," Shabazz said per the outlet.

In his statement, Shabazz claimed that the officer quickly became aware during the traffic stop that both he and Crawford had firearms, which they were legally permitted to carry.
However, rather than their full disclosure easing the situation, it only further escalated the already tense encounter.
"Bud said, 'I have a firearm too.' The cop on his side — he went ballistic. Totally unhinged. He says, 'Get your hands up. Get out the car. Don't reach, don't reach.' But there was never a physical gun in sight," Shabazz further recounted.
Given the reaction, Shabazz claimed that he and his colleagues in the vehicle "thought we were going to die."
The entourage was ultimately forced to exit the vehicle at gunpoint and was placed in handcuffs, as seen in videos of the incident that have since gone viral.
Terence Crawford Was Allegedly Driving Recklessly Before A Traffic Stop

Details of the traffic stop were also released by the Omaha police, giving their version of the incident.
The statement claimed that the stop was initiated because the vehicle was being driven recklessly.
It further stated that the police only ordered the occupants of the vehicle out of the car out of fear for their lives after observing Crawford's gun.
"While speaking with the driver, an officer observed a firearm on the driver's side floorboard," the statement revealed.
It continued, "For safety, all occupants were ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint."
More On The Omaha Police's Statement

In their remarks, they stressed that Crawford was issued a citation after being identified, noting that one of the people in his care was carrying a "legal" gun.
"The driver was later identified as Mr. Crawford upon verification of his driver's license and was issued a citation for reckless driving," the statement read. "One passenger, a member of Mr. Crawford's security team, was also found to be carrying a legal firearm."
Police Chief Tood Schmaderer has also reportedly ordered an internal affairs investigation, with the findings expected to be released at a later date.
Netizens Express Mixed Reactions to Terence Crawford's Arrest

Online, users have shared varied opinions about the arrest, with some blaming the boxer, while others have criticized the police for the manner in which they handled the traffic stop.
One wrote, "Sounds like standard operating procedures when they notice a weapon inside the car. Just because you're a famous boxer and had a parade today doesn't mean you get to drive however you feel like it. You not only put yourself at risk, you put other citizens at risk."
A second netizen commented, "@OmahaPolice, can you explain why officers would pull a gun bc someone is in legal possession of one? Nebraska has made it so easy for most anyone to purchase and carry one, so this seems extremely problematic."
A third individual remarked, "Driving recklessly, which usually means the police suspect DUI. He got pulled over. Officers noticed weapon in the car and none of the occupants stated they were concealed carry holders. Double whammy for the occupants. No matter what color of skin, OPD would have done [the] same."
Following the incident, Crawford was later released, and no charges are currently being filed against him.
