J.K. Rowling went on a lengthy rant on X to blast "ignorant" Emma Watson after the actress shared that she still had affection for her despite their opposing take on transgender rights.

The author claimed that Watson has been blinded by the wealth and privilege she has enjoyed after finding fame as a child in "Harry Potter."

J.K. Rowling also took a dig at Emma Watson's co-stars, particularly Daniel Radcliffe, while exposing a note the actress sent to her after making her vocal support for transgender rights clear.

Rowling launched a blistering attack on Watson, slamming the actress for being "ignorant of how ignorant she is" and accusing her of escalating the torrent of abuse she has suffered for her views on trans people.

Taking to her X account over the weekend, the author noted that Watson and every other actor who has played a character she created all have the right to "embrace gender identity ideology," but attacked them for using their ties to "Harry Potter" to continually act as "de facto spokespeople" for the "world I created."

She went further to bash the actress and her co-star, Radcliffe, who played the titular character Harry Potter, saying they think their former work relationship "gives them a particular right - nay, obligation - to critique me and my views in public."

She then turned to Watson, saying the 35-year-old has little experience of real life, slamming her for being "ignorant of how ignorant she is," having lived a life cushioned by wealth and privileges.

J.K. Rowling Says Emma Watson's Change Of Tone Is Suspicious

Rowling's scathing remark on Watson came in response to the actress's quip on her recent appearance on the "On Purpose" podcast with Jay Shetty, where she said she still "treasures" the Harry Potter author and refuses to "cancel her out" despite their disagreement on gender identity.

Reflecting on the actress's change of tone in her social media post, Rowling said she suspects Watson only said so because she's noticed "full-throated condemnation of me is no longer quite as fashionable as it was."

"Adults can't expect to cosy up to an activist movement that regularly calls for a friend's assassination, then assert their right to the former friend's love, as though the friend was in fact their mother," she added.

During the 2022 BAFTAs, Watson declared in her speech that she was "here for all the witches," which was seen as a dig against Rowling's views, who, at the time, was under heavy backlash for her stance on gender rights.

Addressing the actress's comment, Rowling called it a "turning point" for her, but it wasn't as painful as what was going on in the background.

She explained that despite the talk, Watson had asked someone to give her a handwritten note on which she wrote, "I'm so sorry for what you're going through," even though she had her number.

"This was back when the death, rape, and torture threats against me were at their peak, at a time when my personal security measures had had to be tightened considerably and I was constantly worried for my family's safety," she continued.

"Emma had just publicly poured more petrol on the flames, yet thought a one-line expression of concern from her would reassure me of her fundamental sympathy and kindness," Rowling penned.

In her X rant, Rowling said that Watson's views on transgender rights come from a place of ignorance because her wealth means she does not use "mixed sex" hospital wards or changing rooms, and security guards tail her when she is in public spaces.

"I wasn't a multimillionaire at fourteen. I lived in poverty while writing the book that made Emma famous. I therefore understand from my own life experience what the trashing of women's rights in which Emma has so enthusiastically participated means to women and girls without her privileges," she wrote.

Rowling had previously vowed to "never forgive" Watson or her co-stars Radcliffe and Rupert Grint for having "cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women's hard-won rights."

Rowling has been vocal about her stance on gender rights, and has often said that women's rights are tied to biological sex.

She's known to be trans-exclusionary and is an ardent supporter of maintaining sex-based protections for women, particularly in single-sex spaces like restrooms, shelters, and sports.

The creator of the Wizarding World Franchise and the former child star have seen their relationship sour in recent years as they continue to maintain opposing views on gender rights.
