Madonna Reveals Spiritual Practice That Earned Her Success: 'I Wouldn't Be Here If I Didn't Have One'

Madonna is crediting her over four decades of success to one source, and that’s her spirituality. 

With seven Grammy wins and a legacy as one of the best-selling female recording artists, she has rightfully earned the title Queen of Pop. 

Yet, the "Vogue" singer maintained that true achievement extends beyond fame and material wealth. For her, it is measured by the positive impact she has on others, a perspective deeply shaped by her spiritual beliefs.

The “Material Girl” singer marked her first-ever podcast appearance in “On Purpose with Jay Shetty,” revealing insights into her spiritual life. 

The episode, set to air on Monday, features the 67-year-old singer peeling back the curtain on her Kabbalah journey, which began shortly after the birth of her first child, Lourdes Leon, and which she attributes to her success. 

"You need to be spiritual to be successful. Success is having a spiritual life, period. I wouldn't be here if I didn't have one," Madonna told host Shetty, per PEOPLE Magazine.

The Grammy winner, known for her outspoken advocacy of human rights, said that championing others has always served as a guiding light in her life.

"What have I done for others? That's really the only way you can be successful in life," Madonna said. She illustrated this through the concept of light and darkness, explaining that true purpose is found not in bright spaces, but in confronting the world's dark realities.

“My soul's purpose is to reveal light in the world through whatever I do,” she continued. “I want it all, but I want it for the sake of sharing, not to keep it for myself.”

She admitted that earlier in her life, she felt controlled by how others judged her, but has now learnt she was meant to stand out and has accepted that.

Madonna's spiritual practice, Kabbalah, is a branch of Jewish tradition often described as “mysticism” or “occult knowledge.” Kabbalah explores the essence of God and the mysteries of creation.

Per Reform Judaism, Kabbalists view God and creation as deeply interconnected, with divine energy flowing through all things. They believe every soul contains a hidden spark of God, waiting to be uncovered and revealed.

The practice is typically explored through three main dimensions: the investigative, the practical, and the experiential. 

As Madonna revealed her religious roots, she might soon be shifting away from her long history of dramatic cosmetic enhancements and towards a more natural look.

 The change is said to be influenced by her younger boyfriend, Akeem Morris, with The Blast previously reporting that he encouraged her to accept her features without the use of fillers or surgical procedures.

A source revealed that Madonna has been listening to Morris, something unusual for her, and he has reassuringly told her, “she's beautiful.”

Now, instead of chasing the appearance of youth, she's choosing to embrace her age with pride. Her focus is now on “LED lights, oxygen facials, lymphatic drainage, things that leave the face refreshed.”

Beyond encouraging Madonna to embrace herself, it seems the bond between Morris and the singer is deeper and potentially leading to something more.

The 29-year-old recently hinted at their closeness by affectionately referring to her as "wifey” as he celebrated his birthday. 

According to The Blast, Morris shared photos from the occasion on Instagram, including a playful shot of the singer sitting on his lap while posing with friends. Another photo showed the couple gazing into each other's eyes as they danced together.

In his caption, Morris expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who celebrated with him, especially Madonna, writing, "All I can say is thank you. Thank you, wifey."

Meanwhile, the “Like a Virgin” hitmaker was called out in June by Broadway star Anthony Ramos for her behavior during the performance of “Hamilton.” 

As The Blast reported, although the show happened years ago, Ramos recalled the moment Madonna was buried deep in her iPad while the acting was ongoing. 

Speaking to Andy Cohen on “Watch What Happens Live!” Ramos expressed displeasure at Madonna’s behavior, saying she should have left if she was not enjoying it rather than being absorbed into her iPad.
