Selena Gomez's Mom Faces Major Wedding Snub After Drug Abuse Allegations At Workplace: 'Shattered'

Selena Gomez has reportedly dropped a wedding bombshell, excluding her mom Mandy Teefey from having a significant role at the ceremony amid her drug scandal.

The former “Barney & Friends” star married music producer Benny Blanco on September 27 in Montecito, surrounded by family and friends. 

Among the guests was her mother, Teefey, who raised the singer as a single parent after splitting from her father when Selena was just five. While many assumed Teefey would have the honor of handing her daughter over to Blanco, the “Wizards of Waverly Place” actress made a surprising choice.

In a bold decision, “Only Murders in the Building” star bypassed her mother, Mandy Teefey. Instead, she chose her maternal grandfather, David Cornett, to walk her down the aisle at her wedding. 

The move reportedly left Teefey heartbroken and has stirred tensions within the family. "Selena's mother and her stepfather Brian were shattered she didn't choose her mother to walk her down the aisle," an insider told the Daily Mail. "In a shock move, she chose her grandfather, David, to give her away to Benny."

Cornett and his wife, Debbie, were said to be overjoyed when Gomez asked them early in the wedding planning. Gomez has always shared a close bond with her grandparents, as before moving into her home with Blanco, she lived with them, and they often joined her on red carpets.

According to the insider, Gomez felt Cornett raised her, and the most meaningful way she could honor him was to ask him to be a "huge part of her wedding."

Unlike Gomez's deep bond with her maternal grandparents, her relationship with her mother has been strained for a long time. Gomez and Teefey have even gone on a period of estrangement, plagued by their personal mental health struggles.

For a time, the mother-daughter duo collaborated professionally, producing projects such as “13 Reasons Why.” However, in 2014, Gomez fired both her mother and stepfather as managers, marking the beginning of a difficult chapter in their relationship.

Tensions between Teefey and Gomez deepened in 2018, when Gomez entered a mental health facility without informing her mother, who said she only learned about it through the press. A year later, they reunited and founded Wondermind in 2022, which hit a financial crisis in May. 

Adding further strain are allegations about Teefey's drug use and claims from former staff that she turned her office into a "drug den."

Another insider linked Teefey's behavior to the wedding snub, saying, “Mandy can sometimes be a loose cannon, and that's partly the reason Selena didn't choose her!”

Allegations of drug abuse against Teefey surfaced earlier this month as The Blast reported an exposé featuring explosive claims from former Wondermind employees. 

Staff members alleged they witnessed the businesswoman snorting what appeared to be Ritalin during office hours.

Others described a pattern of nurses frequently visiting the workplace to administer vitamin IV drips, reportedly containing liquid Benadryl.

Teefey, however, allegedly told those present the treatments were for her allergies. Amid the mounting rumors, the mental health advocate denied the claims, insisting the incidents never occurred and accusing disgruntled former staff of spreading lies.

Despite sidelining her mom on her big day, the “Come and Get It” singer went on to share pictures from the occasion on her Instagram. The snaps captured the couple in love, holding each other, wearing Ralph Lauren custom designs. 

Gomez stunned in a halter-style gown adorned with floral details and a sweeping open back, while Blanco looked sharp in a classic black tuxedo paired with a bowtie.

In one of the pictures, the “Fetish” singer sat on the ground with Blanco resting his head in her lap. In another moment, she adjusted his bowtie before leaning in for a kiss.

While Gomez and Blanco's nuptials turned out to be a success, the road leading up to it wasn't entirely smooth. Sources claim the couple hit challenges during the preparation phase, largely due to Blanco's laid-back approach.

According to The Blast, the 37-year-old producer stepped back from much of the planning, telling Gomez he viewed it as "her wedding first, and their wedding second."

However, what may have seemed like a generous gesture from the outside reportedly created tension behind the scenes. Gomez is said to have interpreted his hands-off attitude not as support, but as leaving her to shoulder the entire burden of planning.
