Why Miley Cyrus Still Has Dress From First Date With Ex-Husband Liam Hemsworth Five Years After Divorce

Miley Cyrus may no longer be married to Liam Hemsworth, but she’s still holding on to significant keepsakes from her time with him. 

The singer recently revealed that she still has the outfit she wore when she first met him, among other mementos from their relationship. 

Cyrus and Hemsworth started dating in 2009 and tied the knot in 2018 after an on-and-off relationship. They went their separate ways barely two years later and finalized their divorce in January 2020. 

During an exclusive with Vogue, Cyrus spoke about sorting through inventory and organizing several important pieces in her life. She revealed that she liked to organize things from her past, including her favorite outfits, notebooks, and awards, because it’s an “emotional” experience for her. 

Cyrus also shared that some of the things she still holds on to include the clothes she wore when she first met Hemsworth. She shared that keeping them helps her keep the beautiful memories alive. 

“I literally have a dress that I had on when I met my ex-husband, and then I have my dress that I wore on our first date along with letters and things that I really, I want to savor these kind of beautiful moments of my life,” she said.

“But because these intimate moments have also been public moments, it’s a little bit tough to decide what piece I want to share and what I would ever allow to be seen,” she added. 

The three-time Grammy Award winner also shared that she holds onto such keepsakes from her past because they’re not as fleeting as digital things. She wants to be able to look at them in years to come and remember the joy they once brought to her life. 

Cyrus’s revelation comes after she spoke about losing the home she shared with Hemsworth in the 2018 Woolsey Fire.

The “Hannah Montana” actress revealed that while it was a devastating shock, it marked a turning point in her life because it signified the end of an era. 

“When my house burned down, that was the biggest blessing I’ve ever had in my life, actually,” Cyrus said, per The Blast.

The pop star said being able to rebuild her life after losing everything made her purposeful about what and who she wanted to keep in her life. 

Still speaking about losing her $2.525 million home, Cyrus also said that the loss marked the end of her relationships with several people, including her ex-husband, Hemsworth. 

“I guess for me, when my house burned down, a lot of my relationships also burned down,” she shared. 

Despite it all, Cyrus noted that the experience caused her to approach life with more gratitude. If she could speak to her younger self, she would encourage her to “appreciate those darker times” because they only led her to a much happier place. 

A few weeks after Cyrus opened up about losing her home in a fire, she threw shade at her ex-husband when signing an autograph for a fan.

According to The Blast, the former Disney star didn’t hold back on airing her feelings about Hemsworth during a meet-and-greet. 

The fan, whose name was Liam, had given Cyrus a copy of her “Endless Summer Vacation: Something Beautiful” album to sign. She signed it “To the best Liam,” clearly taking a dig at Hemsworth. 

The ecstatic fan shared a picture of the signed vinyl on X, writing, “Miley writing ‘the best Liam’ on my vinyl [crying emoji].”

The fan also shared a picture of himself posing and smiling with Cyrus. He captioned the picture, “Me when I’m the best Liam,” referring to the shots Cyrus fired at her ex-husband. 

Although Cyrus and Hemsworth’s marriage didn’t work out, the actor isn’t giving up on love just yet. The Blast recently confirmed that the Australian actor is engaged to Gabriella Brooks, his longtime girlfriend. 

Brooks shared the good news via an Instagram post, where she showed off the huge princess-cut diamond ring on her finger while lovingly embracing Hemsworth. 

Brooks and Hemsworth were first spotted together in 2019. However, they didn’t officially disclose the romantic nature of their relationship until 2021.
