'Abbott Elementary' Quinta Brunson Enter A Postnuptial Agreement In Divorce Settlement

Quinta Brunson has joined the league of industry divorcées as she walks away from her marriage to Kevin Anik.

The "Abbott Elementary" star, who was married for almost four years, has finally called it quits. Due to some differences between the pair, she filed for a divorce. The split is seen to be amicable and thus free from excess legal drama.

Quinta Brunson and Kevin Anik got married in October 2021, and he reportedly works in California's legal cannabis industry. The pair lived in the San Fernando Valley and had no children. Their union was not confirmed till she addressed him as her husband during her speech at the 2022 Emmys.

Brunson and her former husband have been separated since December 2024, but they only settled their divorce on Monday, September 22. Being very private people, they took steps to eliminate unnecessary legal involvement by agreeing to an uncontested divorce.

The pair each agreed to pay for their respective attorney fees, and documents show that they had a postnuptial agreement in place, which governs the division of their property. This written agreement was made outside the court, so it grants them some level of privacy on the full details of the settlement.

Brunson had filed for this divorce since March, and in an interview later in June, spoke about the difficulty of keeping her life private. She addressed the split between her and Anik for the first time in the same interview, stating that she, like many other famous people, does not love her life being so public.

As reported by PEOPLE, there are indications that the said agreement includes terms on spousal support. The divorce will be officially finalized once a judge signs the request to finalize the petition.

Brunson spoke on the struggles of being a celebrity and how she had gained experience over the years. The world would always have opinions, but she has learned to brush them off, and most people who say things do not really know her.

The "Abbott" star stated that, despite everything, she loves her fans and enjoys listening to them, but draws a line on her personal life and decisions. She has chosen to go through this life change by focusing on herself and her career.

She admitted that prioritizing herself before others and focusing on watering her own gardens was something she used to see as selfish. However, she has now let go of that mentality. In her words, "there's a reason they tell you to put your oxygen mask on first before you try to help someone else."

Brunson's private life extended widely to her relationship with Anik, as he made little to no appearances on her social media.

It has been challenging to pinpoint when the pair started dating and when they got engaged, but Brunson did post an image showing off a diamond ring, confirming their relationship status at the time in July 2022. The lovers tied the knot in October 2021.

Anik also appears to have no public social media life. Despite the privacy, he was seen on several red carpets with the TV star by her side. The actress was honoured at the Time 100 Gala in June 2022 and and the pair stepped out as a loving couple.

Another rare moment was captured as they attended  Dwyane Wade's FWRD party in 2023. During award ceremonies, as reported by The Blast, Brunson honoured her husband.

At the Emmys in 2022, she expressed gratitude to her parents, family members, and "my wonderful husband, because he's the most supportive man I've ever known." She also spoke about her love for him as she received her second Emmy award in 2024.

After Brunson filed for the divorce earlier in March, reports claim that her estranged husband did not file a response for about three months, probably in the hopes of making things work. Brunson cited the reason for the split were "irreconcilable differences."

To show her determination to end things, she and her lawyer, Laura Wasser, a renowned expert in handling celebrity divorces, proceeded to the next step of the proceedings after waiting to hear back from Anik.

The Blast reports show that Brunson tendered her financial statements to Anik, which included her income, expenses, assets, and debts.  To aid the process, she went very transparent and included a list of assets she considered to be community property as well.

The actress expressed that she did not expect the series to hit off the way it did. Her character, which was initially intended to be minor, became increasingly significant as the seasons unfolded. As a result of the series, she has received recognition and love from fans and the kid stars of the show.

The hit series won three Emmy Awards for Outstanding Cast for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series, and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. After the ceremony, The Blast reports she received some congratulatory messages, which she shared on X.

The kids expressed their happiness towards her winning the award, and one wrote a sweet note thanking her for letting them be on the show.
