Glen Powell Says He Refused To Take A Photo With A 'Recently Canceled' Star: 'His Face Is Toxic'

Glen Powell has spoken out about an uncomfortable encounter with a celebrity he described as "toxic."

The actor stated that when he met the individual, the person had been "recently canceled" due to certain choices they had made.

Glen Powell also mentioned he spoke briefly with the celebrity at the event, but chose not to take a picture with them as he realized it wasn't a good idea given the "visceral reaction" people were having toward them.

During his appearance on Jake Shane's "Therapuss" podcast on Wednesday, Powell shared how he once had a very awkward moment with a "toxic" celebrity at a Hollywood party.

"I showed up to the party and there was somebody that had been on the ropes in terms of getting canceled," Powell revealed on the podcast. "It was one of those Hollywood parties where there's like cameras and press and all that stuff."

The actor explained that he had long admired the individual's work, and he made that known when the individual approached them for a conversation.

"This person had made some of my favorite movies, and I was like, 'Oh, this is great.' He came up and he said, 'Nice to meet you.' I was like, 'Oh, dude. Such a big fan,'" Powell added, although he chose not to disclose the name of the celebrity.

Despite their conversation going smoothly, Powell said he was reluctant to take a picture with the celebrity when a photographer offered to snap one of them.

According to the "Anyone But You" star, he felt that way because of the negative optics surrounding the person at the time.

"This person was recently canceled, and it was not good. I was a fan of their work but not a fan of their choices," the 36-year-old explained.

"So, I was kind of just being nice. But then, when they wanted to take a picture with you, I realized very quickly — I was like, 'Ooh, I don't know if this is a good idea,'" Powell further reflected.

And even when the individual "clearly noticed" that Powell wasn't interested in taking the picture, the "Twisters" actor stood his ground, not wanting the negative optics to rub off on him.

"I realized, this guy, his face is toxic," Powell added. "Going out into the world, people are having a visceral reaction to this person in terms of the bad choice they've made."

Earlier in the month, Powell opened up about his split from his girlfriend Gigi Paris, saying he walked away with no hard feelings.

"I will always have nothing but love for her and respect for her," he said in an interview with GQ Magazine at the time.

"Everybody's always going to have their own narrative on things and all that. And she's welcome to it," the actor referencing comments Paris had made about their 2024 split.

Powell also noted that "Mission Impossible" star Tom Cruise played a key role in helping him navigate the speculations about his love life.

"He basically said, 'Hey, it's going to get really, really loud. It's your job to just turn the volume down. Just remember, you have your hand on that switch. You have your hand on the ability to turn up that noise or turn it down,'" the actor recalled of the advice.

Back in June, Paris had spoken in detail about what led to her split from Powell during her appearance on the "Too Much" podcast.

She said it all started when the actor and his "Anyone But You" co-star Sydney Sweeney were spotted looking flirty on the set of the 2023 rom-com.

"I had two options," Paris said of the speculations that came from the incident, per Page Six. "I could either pretend like I was going along with everything and have everyone wonder, like, 'Are they hooking up? Are they not hooking up? Is she OK with this? What the f-ck?'"

The model also noted that the other choice was to "stand up for [herself]," which she ultimately "decided to do."

According to Paris, the rumors that Powell was possibly involved with Sweeney left her "shattered."

This was primarily due to the actor not shutting the rumors down and instead leaning into them for the PR of his movie with the "Euphoria" star.

"Where are you when you just need to stand up and say, 'No, I would never cheat on my girlfriend. I wouldn't do that,'" Paris said.

"That's all that needed to be said. And that wasn't said. Never once," Paris further noted at the time.
