NBA star Michael Porter Jr. has sparked a firestorm online after revealing his ex-girlfriend must "act right" on a monthly basis in order for him to cover her rent.

This isn't the first time the NBA star has caused chaos on social media, either. Last month, he spent days in the headlines for his response to a viral trend asking whether he'd prefer to have a "gay son" or a "thot daughter."

NBA Star Michael Porter Jr. Ignites A Firestorm After Revealing Strange Set Of Rules For Ex-Girlfriend

While speaking with the host of "Respectfully the Justin Laboy Show," Porter, who plays basketball for the Brooklyn Nets, said he chose to split rent with a recent partner of his to test her intentions.

When the host asked how he could let his partner pay for rent when he's worth over $200 million, Porter explained it was because he couldn't tell if she was with him for love or for his fame and fortune.

"It's very hard when you have money to tell a woman's intentions," Porter said, later revealing that he's always kept his riches to himself; however, he switched things up in his latest relationship.

"I had never bought a girl expensive gifts before this last girl — and it was cool to do,” he said. “But I still wanted to know that she was with me for the right reasons. Every dude in this particular person's past had money. So I never wanted to feel like a girl was just with me because of what I have."

NBA's Porter Jr. Says He Paid Half Of His Ex-Girlfriend's Rent

As the conversation continued, Porter opened up about his strict rules regarding relationships, specifically cohabitation.

Porter won't live with any woman until he's married, which led his ex-girlfriend to begin apartment hunting in the city.

After finding a unit she loved, Porter recalled learning that it was twice her budget.

Because he wanted her to reside there, Porter made a deal with her, ultimately paying whatever she couldn't on a monthly basis. And while they worked out the details, Porter agreed to pay the remaining portion of the monthly rent for a year—regardless of whether they remained together.

However, after they split about six months into the arrangement, Porter found himself in a sticky situation, asking internally, "Do I keep helping her out, or is it cooked?"

Porter revealed that since splitting, his ex-girlfriend has hit him up, "asking for the bread."

“I don't blame her because she went into that apartment not being able to afford it, and I gave her my word,” he said.

But now that they've gone their separate ways, it's not as easy for Porter to fork over the funds, explaining that "she needs to act right month to month" in order to be taken care of.

“I'm just saying. So, if I'm paying the remaining months… and I see she's wilding. Like, bro, it's going to be hard to continue that agreement. That's going to be tough because if you're out here wilding, get that next dude to pay that rent," he said.

His comments clearly resonated with some online users, who praised the former Denver Nuggets star for his honesty.

"He better than me," a person wrote. "I'm not responsible for no ex... go ask yo daddy or the next [dude]." And another user clearly agreed, adding, "Well, lowkey respect that."

However, the comments weren't all positive, as a multitude of netizens criticized him for not keeping his word.

"That's the right thing to do, but after that, she needs to find something in her price range," someone commented, to which another added, "Nah, bruv, you committed to that agreement. Get it paid and roll out. Move on with your life, believe me, and you will feel amazing."

Porter Shares Surprising Response When Asked Question About 'Gay Son' Or 'Thot Daughter'

Porter is no stranger to sparking controversy with his words. Just last month, while appearing on a live stream, the NBA champion was met with backlash after saying having both a "gay son [and] thot daughter" would "hurt a n—a heart."

"If your heartbreak depends on someone else's identity, maybe the problem isn't them, it's you," a person wrote in response to his statement, while another chimed in and accused him of being homophobic.

A third also wrote about how alarming his comments were, while a fourth questioned the origin of his statements. "His own insecurities?" they asked.
