A teenager violently attacked a 66-year-old arena worker during an NBA YoungBoy concert at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City on Sunday night, shocking nearby fans who witnessed the assault.

According to Fox 4 News, the worker, Thomas Schlange, had approached the teen after noticing he was not in his assigned seat. What began as a simple request quickly escalated.

Video captured by audience members shows the teen shoving Schlange into a row of seats before raining punches on him.

Schlange, who suffered blows to the head, recalled little from the terrifying incident other than the aggressor’s uncontrollable anger and his own urgent need to escape.

The violent outburst only stopped when a bystander intervened. Police quickly detained the teen, though he was later released to his parents as authorities continue their investigation.

Kansas City police confirmed the suspect is under 16, but it remains unclear what charges he may face.

Schlange was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. However, his family shared on a GoFundMe page that the attack could worsen his glaucoma and may cause further damage to one of his eyes.

“We are devastated by the injustice of this person and other attendees that didn’t stop that guy at all,” said Schlange’s grandson, Herber Lopez.

Having worked nearly 20 years at the arena, Schlange admitted he never expected to be assaulted on the job.
