Kristin Chenoweth has responded to the backlash her post about Charlie Kirk caused.

The theatre and movie icon sparked social media outrage following her reaction to the conservative commentator's passing. She confessed she was "upset" by his death, describing it as "a heartache," and hoped he was in heaven. 

Kristin Chenoweth's words did not sit right with some of her followers, especially those from the LGBTQ+ community and other critics who did not appreciate Charlie Kirk's controversial words. However, the entertainer refuses to back down from her stance of forgiveness.

Chenoweth is no stranger to sparking backlash for seeing the best in men whose notoriety has made them the public's biggest enemies. Her loving and forgiving nature was evident in her reaction to Kirk's passing, whom she noted she did not always agree with, but appreciated some of his perspectives.

Following the criticisms she received for her comments, Chenoweth revealed in a new interview that she never meant to hurt her fans. "I saw what happened online with my own eyes. And I had a human moment of reflection," she explained, referencing the viral videos of Kirk's shooting.

"Right then, I came to understand that my comment hurt some folks and that hurt me. So I would never," Chenoweth continued. She told NY1 she lived and acted as a person of faith, hence her continuous support for the LGBTQ+ community that Kirk had always condemned.

Chenoweth noted some religious people might argue that faith and support for the LGBTQ+ community do not go together. "But for me, it always has. And it always will," she declared. As stated, Kirk wasn't the first controversial figure Chenoweth has supported, as she had an interesting reaction to Diddy's case.

Last year, The Blast shared that the disgraced rapper was arrested and indicted on multiple charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution. He was held in a federal facility in New York while awaiting his trial in May 2025.

Despite the scathing allegations against him, Chenoweth noted her stance on Diddy's case remained unchanged. She admitted that the charges against him were "really bad" but did not disclose whether she believed he was guilty or not. Instead, Chenoweth declared she was "still praying" for Diddy.

The Broadway Icon Was Shocked By Diddy's Assault Video

Chenoweth's comments about Diddy first made waves early last year following the release of a brutal assault video. The footage captured the Bad Boy Records founder attacking his former girlfriend, Cassie, in a hotel lobby.

The TV personality shared her reaction to the video in a series of tweets, confessing that the video bothered her for multiple reasons. Nonetheless, her forgiving nature overshadowed her discomfort, with Chenoweth writing, "The main thing I need to do is pray for him."

When fans called her out for praying for the wrong person, Chenoweth stood by her words. She emphasized that she was sickened by the video and was grateful Cassie survived the assault.

However, she believed Diddy needed prayers to fix his problems, tweeting, "He is ill. Sick. Only God can forgive him. So forgive me, but that's how I think. And pray."

"Several years ago, I was severely abused. It took me therapy and prayer to understand I deserved better," Chenoweth confessed. She noted she was "deeply injured physically and spiritually," and leaned heavily on prayer when she got out of the toxic relationship.

Chenoweth recalled praying for herself and praying for the perpetrator because "he grew up abused." Her bombshell revelation changed fans' tune, with many labeling her the better and bigger person for choosing forgiveness over hatred.

Besides sparking backlash for supporting controversial men, Chenoweth faced criticism for her rendition of the National Anthem. The incident occurred at the NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers in June 2025.

The Blast covered the story, sharing that Chenoweth had showcased her vocal skills with a theater-style performance of the anthem. She belted out several high notes that many found uncomfortable, but Chenoweth defended her unique performance.
