In the aftermath of Charlie Kirk's shocking murder, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has ignited a political firestorm.

His on-air comments linking the accused shooter, Tyler Robinson, to MAGA drew the attention of the Federal Communications Commission.

Now, FCC chief Brendan Carr is weighing potential disciplinary action against the talk show host. To worsen things, Jimmy Kimmel's show has now been pulled by ABC.

Kimmel's controversial words came during his Monday night monologue.

The comedian told viewers, "We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it."

Prosecutors, however, maintain that the 22-year-old suspect, Tyler Robinson, displayed leftist leanings rather than MAGA ties.

FCC boss Brendan Carr described Kimmel's statements as deeply troubling.

Speaking with conservative podcaster Benny Johnson, Carr said, "When you look at the conduct that has taken place by Jimmy Kimmel, it appears to be some of the sickest conduct possible."

Shortly after the FCC boss's remarks, a spokesperson for ABC confirmed to Deadline that Kimmel's show had been pulled "indefinitely."

"'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' will be preempted indefinitely," the spokesperson said.

The shock move by ABC came right after the media company, Nexstar, removed Kimmel's show from all its 200 stations in the country due to his remarks about Kirk and the alleged shooter.

"Nexstar's owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future, beginning with tonight's show," the company said in a statement. "Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets."

There Were Calls for Suspension And An On-Air Apology

During the interview with the FCC boss, Johnson asked Carr whether Kimmel should be forced to apologize publicly.

Carr responded, "I think what you said there strikes me as a very reasonable, minimal step that can be taken."

Carr even floated suspension as a possible remedy, warning that ABC could face consequences if similar incidents continue.

"There are avenues here for the FCC, so there... are some ways in which I need to be a little bit careful because we could be called ultimately to be a judge on some of these claims that come up," Carr explained.

He added, "Frankly, I think it's really sort of past time that a lot of these licensed broadcasters themselves push back on Comcast and Disney and say, 'Listen, we are going to... we're not going to run Kimmel anymore until you straighten this out.'"

Tyler Robinson's Background Raises More Questions

Robinson, a Utah native, was arrested and charged with capital murder for the killing of Charlie Kirk at a university event in Orem, Utah.

Authorities say the suspect is not cooperating with investigators.

In a text message to his roommate, Robinson allegedly wrote, "I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can't be negotiated out."

Another text referenced his father's political stance. It read, "My father has been pretty die-hard MAGA since President Trump had been re-elected."

Utah Governor Spencer Cox commented on the suspect's ideology during NBC's "Meet the Press."

He said, per the Daily Mail, "Clearly there was a lot of gaming going on. Friends have confirmed that there was kind of that deep, dark internet, the Reddit culture, and these other dark places of the internet where this person was going deep."

Cox clarified that although Robinson came from a conservative family, "his ideology was very different than his family."

Donald Trump, Media Battles, And A History of Settlements

The controversy over Jimmy Kimmel's comments arrives amid an ongoing struggle between President Donald Trump's allies and mainstream media outlets.

Carr pointed to examples of legacy networks being forced into costly settlements with Trump.

ABC paid $16 million after George Stephanopoulos incorrectly said Trump had been found civilly liable for rape in the E. Jean Carroll case.

CBS News parent Paramount also settled for $16 million after Trump alleged deceptive editing in a Kamala Harris interview.

Carr argued that broadcasters must be held accountable for distortions, saying, "Because we, the licensed broadcaster, are running the possibility of fines or license revocation from the FCC if we continue to run content that ends up being a pattern of news distortion."

He also claimed the media landscape is shifting dramatically, noting, "Joy Reid is out at MSNBC. Terry Moran is gone from ABC and now admitting that they are biased. CBS has now made some commitments to us that will return to more fact-based journalism."

The Fallout Over Tyler Robinson And Jimmy Kimmel's Future

The FCC scrutiny is expected to unsettle executives at ABC, which already carries baggage from past clashes with Trump.

Carr didn't mince words about Kimmel personally, saying, "So I think you see some lashing out from people like Kimmel, who are frankly talentless, and are looking for ways to get attention."

Meanwhile, the case against Robinson continues to unfold.

His first court appearance was held on Tuesday, where prosecutors laid out capital murder charges.

The killing of Charlie Kirk, who leaves behind his wife Erika and two young children, has devastated conservative circles and intensified political divisions.

As Carr put it, the solution may start with a simple gesture.

Whether Kimmel issues such an apology or faces harsher consequences remains to be seen. Only time will tell.
