Reports have emerged revealing why the old man who falsely claimed he shot Charlie Kirk made the statement to police.

Identified as George Zinn, the 71-year-old was arrested shortly after Kirk's murder, having approached officers and saying, "I shot him, shoot me now." Court records have now revealed that he made the claim because he wanted to distract attention from the real shooter.

George Zinn has since been charged with obstruction of justice for his actions after Charlie Kirk's shooting and faces considerable jail time, as the charge is a second-degree felony.

George Zinn Wanted To Help The Actual Shooter Get Away

On the day of Charlie Kirk's murder, police first arrested a man known as George Zinn as a potential suspect in the crime.

The 71-year-old had walked up to officers shortly after the heinous act was committed and shouted, "I shot him, now shoot me."

The photo of the elderly man then quickly circulated online, leading many to think Zinn was actually the individual who had assassinated the Turning Point USA founder.

Ultimately, it was determined that Zinn was not the killer and had made a false claim to the police. Now, court documents obtained by Fox 13 have revealed why Zinn made those claims at the Utah event where Kirk was murdered.

According to the New York Post, the document listed how he admitted to the police in an interview that he did it to cause a distraction "to draw attention from the real shooter."

Zinn was also quoted as saying he "wanted to be a martyr for the person who was shot" after being transported to a local hospital due to a medical condition.

Following Zinn's false statement to the police, he was charged with obstruction of justice, as his comments had delayed the investigation into the killing and wasted police resources.

The charge is classified as a second-degree felony, meaning Zinn could face considerable jail time if found guilty.

Even more damaging for him was the discovery of images of underage girls dressed only in their underwear during a search of his phone, per TMZ. He was subsequently hit with four additional counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

When questioned about the sexual material by the feds who visited him at the hospital, Zinn reportedly admitted that he becomes "sexually aroused" by children.

He also stated that he uses the phone to watch videos that involve child sexual abuse materials.

The 71-Year-Old Is 'More Of A Gadfly Than Anything Else'

In the wake of Zinn's arrest, reports emerged describing him as more of a political "gadfly" who often frequents events like the one where Kirk was murdered.

He was also said to have been arrested numerous times for trespassing at such events or removed by security.

"Almost every political event you can think of, there was always George somewhere in the background, listening," Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said about Zinn in an interview with a local outlet.

"He's a person who can be odd, and has those kinds of sometimes odd behavior challenges," added Gill, who has spearheaded many prosecutions against Zinn. "But by and large, he's more of a gadfly than anything else."

Robinson has been held without bail since his arrest, and there is no confirmation yet on whether he has secured legal representation.

The alleged killer has also not disclosed his motive for shooting Kikr; however, his relationship with an allegedly trans individual has led many to speculate that he targeted the political conservative over his alleged anti-transgender views.

According to reports, Robinson told his roommate that he had had enough of Kirk's "hatred" and that "some hate can't be negotiated out."
