Brandon Blackstock's kids are coping without his presence.
Reba McEntire, stepmother of the late Blackstock, has spoken up about how his children with Kelly Clarkson are holding up in the wake of their father's death.
The late former talent manager was previously married to Clarkson before their divorce in 2022. They continued to coparent their kids, River, 11, and Remington, 9, until his death.
Despite their split, Clarkson spent time with her children's father during the time that mattered the most. Blackstock passed on August 7, 2025, after a private three-year fight against cancer.

McEntire, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the 2025 Emmys, spoke about how the former music manager, Blackstock's children, are holding up, having lost their dad over a month ago.
The late talent manager shared two kids with his first ex-wife, Melissa Ashworth, and two with his more recent ex-wife, Clarkson.
"The kids are doing well; they're all bonding together and hanging out with each other and taking it one day at a time," McEntire disclosed. "We know God's got this."
The country singer then added, "We miss him. We miss him every minute."

A rep for the talent manager's family confirmed his passing via a statement. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family," it read.
Following the news, close sources revealed Clarkson was "feeling lost" without her late ex-husband, and it was having a grave impact on her life.
"Once her marriage ended and once Brandon's health started dwindling, it has been very rough," the insider shared. "Kelly's life has flipped upside down with Brandon's cancer struggles and now death."
Amid dealing with her grief, "The Kelly Clarkson Show" host has had to deal with the reality that she is now a single mother to her two kids, forcing her to dive into full "mom mode" to be there for River and Remington.

Clarkson's motherly instincts did not just kick in after the loss of her ex-husband, but had always been there. The 43-year-old singer reportedly never had anything bad to say about Blackstock for the sake of her children.
Clarkson and her former manager had a very volatile split, but she did not let that affect her children, making sure they had the best memories of their father.
"She never ever said a bad word about her ex, ever," an informant explained, as reported by The Blast. "So even though they're not together, I think this will affect her deeply."
Clarkson even cancelled the rest of her August residency when Blackstock's health was declining faster, stating that she had to be "there for" her children.
The source further shared that Clarkson was "an empath" who often sympathized with those going through a difficult time. Hence, she would be deeply affected by the loss.
Kelly Clarkson Nursed Some Guilt Following Blackstock's Death

Even though the songwriter was a support system for the children she shared with Blackstock, she reportedly felt guilty about he ex-husband's health struggles.
As reported earlier by The Blast, despite acknowledging that she knew she was not to blame for the former TV personality's cancer diagnosis, she felt bad about how their divorce went.
The duo's divorce was messy, which made Clarkson question whether the stress from their split had made him "more susceptible" to the disease.

Following Blackstock's death, his stepmother, McEntire, took to her Instagram to share a touching farewell post.
"Last week, my stepson/oldest son, Brandon Blackstock, went home to be with God," she penned in the accompanying caption. "His struggle is over, and he is in eternal peace in God's presence."
"The Last One To Know" singer shared that she was grateful for the time she had spent with the late television producer. She confessed that Blackstock was irreplaceable, writing, "There is no one else like him."
"His legacy and laughter will be carried on through his family. Rest in peace, cowboy. Happy trails to you till we meet again," McEntire concluded.
