Tyler Robinson was arrested in Utah after police identified him as the alleged gunman.

Debbie broke her silence on Friday, admitting she was in disbelief that her quiet grandson was accused of killing Charlie Kirk.

“My son, his dad, is a Republican for Trump,” she told the Daily Mail.

However, she insisted politics never seemed to interest Tyler.

“He’s the shyest person. He has never, ever spoke politics to me at all,” the 69-year-old said, adding that nearly her entire family are staunch Republicans. “I don’t know any single one who’s a Democrat. I’m just so confused.”

Debbie explained that her son, Matt Robinson, who runs the family construction company, was the one who turned Tyler in to the police.

Heartbroken, she revealed Matt hasn’t spoken to her since the arrest, leaving her in shock and isolation as the story unfolds.

Tyler’s Grandmother Says He Never Liked Guns

The heartbroken grandmother described Tyler as anything but violent.

She told the outlet that her grandson didn’t even like guns.

“I don’t think he ever shot a gun, to tell you the truth. He doesn’t hunt, he’s never liked anything like that. I know he doesn’t own any guns. There’s just no way he could have been that good of a shot,” Debbie explained.

She also insisted there were no signs of mental health struggles, describing him as “wonderful child.”

Debbie insisted there was absolutely no way he could have done anything like that, stressing that she would swear by it.

According to her, the 22-year-old had never been in trouble at any point in his life and had always been a shy, well-mannered kid, which made the accusations even harder to believe.

Debbie also admitted that she had no idea her grandson even attended Charlie Kirk’s event, stressing that he worked in St. George and lived a normal routine.

She chalked the entire situation up to what she called “mistaken identity or something.”

“I’ve watched that child grow up and I can’t imagine that it would ever, ever, ever be him,” she said, adding she wasn’t just defending him out of loyalty. “And I’m not just saying that as his grandma. It’s just knowing him as I do.”

Debbie, while standing by her grandson, also showed sympathy for the victim’s family.

She said she had never even heard of him until the news began spreading, and admitted she felt very sad for his wife after reading more about the situation.

Authorities, however, painted a very different picture of the suspect.

Officials said the suspect had recently expressed political opinions against Charlie Kirk.

Utah’s governor even revealed that during a family dinner that Tyler reportedly discussed his dislike for the conservative speaker, saying Kirk was “full of hate and spreading hate.”

Investigators also spoke to his roommate, who allegedly showed them Discord messages in which Tyler joked about the shooting and referenced engraved bullets.

The roommate further claimed the suspect mentioned retrieving a rifle from a drop point.

The manhunt for Tyler Robinson came to an end at 11 pm on September 11 after 33 hours, and it was his own father who made the heartbreaking call that led to his arrest.

Authorities had plastered Tyler’s face across the media, and when his dad saw the photos, he recognized his son immediately.

According to reports, he pleaded with Tyler to turn himself in, but the 22-year-old allegedly resisted, insisting he’d “rather die” than surrender.

Desperate to prevent a deadly outcome, the father turned to a family friend, a youth pastor who also happened to be a U.S. Marshals Task Force officer.

Together, they coordinated with federal agents, and the suspect was quietly taken into custody at the family’s Washington County home.
