Pop star Taylor Swift is not winning over any fans with the original album art for her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” The new album will be released on October 3, and although fans were hoping that they would be treated to a new single, and perhaps even a music video, at the MTV Video Music Awards, fans were left disappointed. Without any new music to debate, fans have been rehashing her album artwork, with some comparing it to “dirty bathwater.”

Although a lot of fans have expressed disdain for her new “sexy” era, one fan on Reddit decided to share a controversial take: they didn’t hate it. This user provided a different take on the usual remarks, stating that they didn’t think that it was “meant to be” aesthetically pleasing to the eye, perhaps hinting at some of the themes of the album.

“This look very much reminds me of early/mid 2010s pop music. The immensely sticky tracks and, high budget music videos of that era that went onto garner millions upon millions of views. The sorta stuff that hits a billion view mark with views and streaming,” they wrote, while admitting that they understand that the “editing can be weird and divisive.”

While some people don’t like the overall look of her artwork, other people have an issue with the weird font on the text boxes that break up the overall frame of the photo. As one fan asked:

“My problem is not with the photo, my problem is with the f-ck-ss text boxes and the broken effects thrown all over it. It hurts to look at. The photo is already aggressive and meant to cause discomfort, which serves its purpose, but the text is just messy and makes it feel cluttered and unfocused. Also, the font seems weirdly basic for this?”

Another follower agreed, adding, “It really just looks like some amateur designed this in Canva. I'm also not a fan. And, the photos that have been released all have poor lighting and kind of strange editing.”

Other fans did not like the background, with one user writing, “It looks like dirty bath water, which is my main issue with it.” Another follower agreed, adding, “If far surpasses dirty bath water to me and looks like she’s lying in stagnant water that is about to give her a brain-eating amoeba.”

“I do not like this cover much at all. I think the green tones are nice,” a third fan agreed. “I hate the text and the way it’s broken up and spread out.” They later added, “I also don’t think Taylor (or really almost anyone) looks great lying in water.”

On August 26, the “Love Story” singer revealed that her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, popped the question after about two years of dating. She shared photos from the proposal on her Instagram page with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
