For years, Gomez has faced cruel remarks about her weight, and recently, she admitted they often hurt more than fans realize.

“I got stung by a person saying I was fat. Why is that [emotion] coming up?” she told Allure in a cover story, explaining how sensitive she has always been about her body.

The star noted that her weight would often fluctuate due to health problems, but instead of understanding, people rushed to judge her.

“I’ve dealt with a lot of weight issues in my life, and that’s something I’m very sensitive to,” she shared.

In her 2022 documentary “My Mind & Me,” Gomez revealed she would post confident photos while secretly crying alone.

“All the while, being in the room posting and crying my eyes out because nobody deserves to hear those things,” she said per the Daily Mail.

The “Wizards of Waverly Place” actress explained that therapy played a huge role in helping her deal with the pain of body shaming. According to her, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) helped her trace her emotions back to her past.

Gomez explained that she realized her emotions often traced back to the period when her health struggles caused weight gain. However, it wasn’t easy. Gomez admitted the process took a lot of effort.

“You just definitely have to be willing to do the work, and that part can be tricky,” she said.

Still, therapy helped her stop blaming herself and allowed her to move forward with more peace of mind.

The singer also learned to take breaks from social media, where she is one of the most-followed people in the world.

Behind her Hollywood success, Gomez has fought very real health battles.

She was diagnosed with lupus years ago, which led to chemotherapy in 2013 and a kidney transplant in 2017.

The disease still affects her daily life. “I deal with a lot of [dexterity issues] myself, and it can get frustrating. Even just popping open a can can hurt,” she admitted.

Her documentary also showed her being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, though today she said she can’t bring herself to watch it.

“I’m very glad it came out, but that’s not necessarily who I am now. To be honest, I can’t watch it. But it’s only because I’m not there anymore,” she said.

Gomez added that her weight changes were often linked to medication, but instead of understanding, people jumped at the chance to shame her.

“It was like they couldn’t wait to find a thing to bring me down,” she explained.

Now, she wants her fans to know it’s about survival and self-love, not numbers on a scale.

While the Hollywood star has faced struggles, her relationship with Blanco has brought her peace.

She admitted that timing made all the difference. “I don’t think I would have been remotely mature enough,” she said, reflecting on their romance. “It’s weird to think that only five years ago I wouldn’t have been in the right place, but I’ve learned so many lessons that led me to being the best partner I could be for Benny.”

Gomez revealed the 37-year-old sometimes wonders about the time they lost.

“He’ll say, ‘Gosh, why did we waste so much time?’ And I always say, ‘You wouldn’t have liked me back then. I was all over the place,’” she shared.

The former Nickelodeon star described Blanco as one of the most grounding influences in her life, someone who helps her feel normal despite the chaos of fame.
