According to a new report from Us Weekly, Lochte was nearly evicted from his home in the Sunshine State after his landlord informed the court that the gold medalist was behind thousands in rent.

On September 3, however, Lochte and his landlord reached a new agreement. The swimmer will pay $7,059, which includes fees and September's rent of $6,100.

The legal documents state that Lochte's first payment of $3,959.25 was due on Friday, September 5, with the remainder due at a later date. During the hearing, Lochte agreed not to be late on rent for the duration of his lease, which will end in February 2026.

Per Us Weekly, the swimmer also told the court he would vacate the property at the end of his lease unless he reached a new agreement with his landlord.

Lochte's financial troubles come during a chaotic time in his life, considering his estranged wife, Kayla, announced her plans to divorce the 40-year-old in the summer of 2025.

A previous report from The Blast detailed the initial announcement, which saw Kayla informing her 300,000+ Instagram followers about the challenges she was facing.

"Sometimes we face trials we didn't choose or see coming. And in those moments, we're forced to make the hardest decisions to protect our peace, our children, and our future. I've come to the understanding that staying isn't always the most loving decision someone can make. For me, leaving was an act of love, for those around me and for myself," she said.

Weeks later, more details about the couple's private life became public, including news of their nearly $300,000 debt, most of which is owed to the IRS.

Following that, Kayla filed new court documents, per The Blast, pleading with the court to grant her sole physical custody of their three children, Caiden, Liv, and Georgia.

In the filing, Kayla, a Florida-based real estate agent and former Playboy Playmate, stated her belief that sharing custody of her children with Ryan would be "detrimental" to their well-being because of the swimmer's alleged "history of substance abuse."

As she went on, Kayla explained that she allegedly found "mostly empty baggies of cocaine" around their shared home, including in their kids' bathroom and bedrooms.

Additionally, in court documents, Kayla, 34, stated that she was apprehensive about Ryan having custody of their children due to his propensity to sometimes "doze off during the day." She alleged that the 12x Olympic medalist once "passed out in the driver's seat" of their car with music blaring. She claimed that he'd also fallen asleep "while being the only adult watching the children" during another incident.

And it doesn't just end there. Kayla alleged that she once caught Ryan "inhaling nitrous oxide in front of" one of their minor children while they were together in the garage, before claiming he's also "driven the children to school while intoxicated."

Ryan Lochte Says He's Over 50 Days Sober

And it gets even messier. The court documents Kayla filed also claim Ryan failed two drug tests, along with a hair follicle test.

"[Ryan's] recurring and repeated irresponsible behavior shows he is unfit to exercise shared parental responsibility, and it would [be] a detriment to the minor children to award the same," Kayla's legal representative shared.

Ryan clapped back at the claims in a statement of his own, "adamantly" denying "ever using drugs in front of or around my children, and I have never driven them while intoxicated."

He added, "At times, I would rest in my truck instead of going inside, not because I was impaired, but because the home environment had become overwhelming and very toxic, and I needed and a moment to collect myself before walking in."

In a recent video shared on social media, Ryan also indirectly addressed the drug allegations, explaining that a past car accident left him struggling with feelings of depression and loneliness, "which led me down a road of substance abuse."

"I checked myself into a Florida recovery center," Lochte said, admitting he's over 50 days sober. "The staff has been incredible. They helped me realize substance abuse isn't a solution. It's just a distraction that makes things worse." According to Ryan, he's feeling "much better, thinking clearly, motivated, and moving forward."
