Aaron Rodgers had an exceptional start to the 2025 NFL season, leading the Pittsburgh Steelers to an electrifying 34-32 win over Justin Fields and the New York Jets.
The victory was undoubtedly a special one for the 41-year-old Super Bowl champion, considering it came against the very team that released him in March 2025.
Following the thrilling win, Aaron Rodgers spoke with reporters about his performance and didn't hold back, sharing his true, unfiltered feelings about his former team.

"I was happy to beat everybody associated with the Jets," Rodgers stated after the game at MetLife Stadium, pointing to previous comments and concerns he heard from Jets staffers about his ability to continue performing at a high level in the league.
"But there were probably people in the organization that didn't think I could play anymore. So it was nice to remind those people that I still can," he said.
Rodgers described his team's win as "nice ... especially hearing some of the catcalls out there and the boo-birds."
Although the NFL MVP insists he isn't "sensitive," he said being met with some negativity actually fueled him. "I expected that. I kinda like that," he stated.
Aaron Rodgers' Former Teammates Knew He'd Perform

Rodgers' dominating performance was to be expected. Per a previous report from The Blast, several NFL stars predicted he would have a stellar comeback season following his release from the Jets.
Aaron Jones of the Minnesota Vikings told reporters that Rodgers would now "have a chip on his shoulder," adding, "He's going to go out and show that, 'You guys made the wrong decision. I got a lot of ball left, and we're going to be good.'"
CJ Mosley, a former defensive tackle for the Jets, also shed some light on Rodgers' time with the team, which was marred after he ruptured his left Achilles tendon during their season opener against the Buffalo Bills in 2023.
"He did some great things this year, hitting his 500th touchdown. He was a leader, no matter what, when he came into the locker room, and that was evident when he was with us this year. Nothing but respect for him to come back from the Achilles, 40-plus years old," Mosley said.
Mosley also defended Rodgers' tenure with the Jets despite the team's disappointing 5-12 record in 2024, insisting that Rodgers had nothing to be ashamed of. "I know the wins and losses can get in the way of a lot of things that you can accomplish, but there's no reason for him to leave New York with his head down 'cause I know he gave us his all," he said.

However, not everyone was thrilled with Rodgers' post-game comments, with several social media users calling the former Green Bay Packers star out for being brash.
"How does anyone actually like this guy?" a user wrote, while another posted, "Y'all barely won. Calm down."
Many other users chimed in, mocking the California native while predicting another mediocre season.
"Glad I got to boo you live, sir," someone wrote, prompting another to share, "I can't wait to watch this all fall apart for him."
Aaron Rodgers Signed A $13 Million Contract With The Steelers

News about Rodgers' new $13.65 million contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers became public knowledge in June 2025. During a previous interview, as reported by PEOPLE, the veteran quarterback shared that his family actually had a significant impact on where he ended up.
Rodgers explained that he was "taking orders" from his in-laws, specifically a 20-year-old named Mia, adding, "She's... the brains of the family; you just have to ask her."
He laughed briefly before discussing the details of his massive, one-year deal, saying, "Every team that I talked to, I said, 'Listen, if I play, I'm not going to take a ton of money. I've made a ton of money. I don't need the money.'"
Aaron Rodgers Returned For His 'Soul'

Rodgers went on to say that he returned to the NFL for his 21st season for one reason only: "my soul." Although he could have left football behind, he wanted to ensure the decision he made was truly right for him.
"A lot of decisions that I've made over my career and life from strictly the ego, even if they turn out well, are always unfulfilling. But the decisions made from the soul are usually pretty fulfilling," he said. "This was a decision that was best for my soul, and I felt like being here with coach [Mike Tomlin] and the guys that got here and the opportunity here was the best for me, and I'm excited to be here."
