Another Game, Another W: Las Vegas Aces Get 14th Straight Win Sunday Against Chicago Sky
By Melanie VanDerveer on September 8, 2025 at 1:30 AM EDT

Sunday’s highly anticipated matchup between the Las Vegas Aces and the Chicago Sky didn’t disappoint. It was giving playoff season energy!
As each team looks to make a strong statement heading in the final few regular season games, the action-packed game had a full T-Mobile Arena in their high-energy era.
All In, All Wins: Aces Beat Sky 80-66

The Aces are unstoppable!
Aces star A’ja Wilson went off for her 10th 30-point, 10-rebound game of the season as the Aces kept their streak sizzling, rolling past the Chicago Sky 80-66 on Sunday night. This victory brings them to their 14th consecutive win!
Wilson had 31 points and 11 rebounds, Jackie Young had 20 points and nine assists, and Chelsea Gray added 13 points.
With their win on Sunday night, the Aces clinch home court advantage for the Quarterfinals.
Wilson has been a contender for MVP, but the race has recently tilted even more in her favor. After the Aces’ win over the Lynx last week, she now looks like the clear favorite for WNBA MVP.
Aces Star A'ja Wilson Is The Top MVP Candidate

After a rocky 11-11 start heading into All-Star Weekend, the Aces flipped the script and caught fire in the back half of 2025.
The surge has been fueled by star player, A’ja Wilson, the clear front-runner for 2025 WNBA MVP, and a strong favorite for Defensive Player of the Year. And it’s not just Wilson’s on-court presence and leadership that’s noted. It’s also her off the court presence.
According to an email sent to The Blast from the Aces organization, “After the Aces suffered a 53-point defeat to Minnesota - the lone loss for Las Vegas in their last 16 games, Wilson texted her teammates with a strong message.” That message - “(I sent) a message to them and just said, ‘if you weren’t embarrassed from yesterday, then don’t come into this gym. We need the mindset to shift because that was embarrassing.’”
That message was taken to heart by her teammates, and the Aces haven’t lost a game since.
To put her dominance into perspective, only one player in WNBA history has ever averaged 20+ points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 1 steal in a season, and it’s the frontrunner for MVP - Wilson!
Chicago Sky's Angel Reese Was Suspended For First Half And Ruled Out For Second Half

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Sky star Angel Reese was suspended for the first half of the game because of comments she made during the second-year player’s league mandated media conference.
Reese shared her frustration with the team earlier this week and told the Chicago Tribune that if the team doesn’t improve, she may need to “move in a different direction and do what’s best for me.”
The organization made a public statement about the situation. “This matter has been handled and resolved internally and we are moving forward as a team,” they shared.
Not long after, Reese retracted her comments and apologized for what she said to the team.
While fans expected to see Reese on the court during the second half of the game against the Aces, she was ruled out due to injury (back).
