Erin Andrews is stepping off the sidelines and into America’s most spirited seasonal debate: pumpkin spice. The sports broadcaster and entrepreneur has partnered with Glade to headline the brand’s first-ever Pumpkin Debate, which uses new survey data to uncover how Americans really feel about fall’s most talked-about scent. In an exclusive chat with The Blast, Erin Andrews opened up about her favorite fall rituals, the power of seasonal scents, and what she’s teaching her young son about autumn, even in sunny Southern California.

Glade is leaning into the divide with its Pumpkin Debate campaign, offering scents for every preference, from Pumpkin & Ginger to Warm Apples & Spices. Partnering with Andrews was a natural fit, as she embodies the idea of blending tradition with trend.

For years, pumpkin spice has been synonymous with fall, but Glade’s survey paints a more nuanced picture. Nearly half of Americans (49%) call pumpkin spice a cherished ritual, yet about a third (29%) feel it’s overhyped. Even those who say they dislike pumpkin spice still buy fall scents, 64% use them at home, and 56% purchase them each season.

“I love candles. I love this whole thing about just how hysterical the whole pumpkin debate is,” Andrews told The Blast. “I always knew people were obsessed. I didn’t realize it was such a passionate thing.”

However, while pumpkin spice might dominate Instagram feeds and coffee shop menus, Glade’s national survey reveals that cinnamon (55%) and apple (49%) actually rank as the country’s top choices. And for Andrews, the findings couldn’t be more relatable.

Andrews Uses Glade To Recreate Fall Vibes

Growing up in Florida, Andrews didn’t have the crisp leaves or chilly air that typically define fall. Instead, she remembers her mother, a retired art teacher, transforming their home into a seasonal wonderland with decorations and Glade candles. “My mom always made our house look like a fall wonderland, a Christmas wonderland, like anything,” Andrews shared. “This is the time of year she’d get the Glade candles out… because it doesn’t feel like it outside.”

Now living in Southern California, Andrews continues the tradition, using scents and décor to bring the season indoors. For her, fragrance is the shortcut to fall. When asked which scent reigns supreme, Andrews didn’t hesitate to side with the survey results. “I’m very much a cinnamon gal,” she admitted. “It makes you think of home and comfy cozy. But it’s also a little bit of a preview to Christmas, which I love.”

Apple comes in a close second, while pumpkin remains part of her lineup, just not at the top. Her personal preference echoes Glade’s findings, which claim more Americans prefer apple and cinnamon over pumpkin spice, especially in the South and Midwest.

Between covering NFL action, supporting her husband Jarret Stoll’s hockey career, and raising a toddler, Andrews admits her schedule can get overwhelming. That’s why she makes a point to carve out intentional family time, often with a little help from Glade. “I was out at the store the other day picking up the fall essentials because I’m trying to be the mom that can hold it down at home,” she laughed. “We got our Halloween costumes the other day, so we could try to act like we were organized and on top of it.”

She says creating cozy rituals at home helps her separate work from family. “The biggest thing I’ve got to learn is when it’s our time, it’s our time," she admitted. "You really have to separate work from family, which can be hard.”

This season feels extra special for Andrews, whose son recently turned two. The family recently visited Disneyland to enjoy the park’s fall décor, and at home, Andrews has found creative ways to tie seasonal rituals into parenting milestones. “He’s very excited about 'The Nightmare Before Christmas,'” she revealed. “He’s never seen the movie, but the song ‘This Is Halloween’… it’s actually helping us with potty training!”

From teaching him about trick-or-treating to lighting candles that mark the changing seasons, Andrews says it’s all about creating memories. “Halloween will be that much of a bigger deal this year because he kind of understands a little bit more,” she explained.
