The video, shared on June 18, shows Efron stepping out of the water in black swim trunks before slipping on a pair of sleek sunglasses while flexing his toned build. The caption, in partnership with Police Lifestyle sunglasses, kept things simple, highlighting the shades he was rocking. But as polished as the campaign looked, the comment section quickly turned into a heated debate over his changing appearance.

One viral remark pulled no punches. “Bruh.. I’m not even mad, but get it together," they wrote. "Your current face looks like Madonna mixed with Celine Dion with a smidge of David Hasselhoff.” The jab, which racked up thousands of likes, echoed what many fans have been saying since Efron’s 2021 viral jawline injury. While running through his house in socks, he slipped and smashed his chin on the granite corner of a fountain, knocking himself unconscious. When he woke up, he recalled, his chin bone was hanging off his face.

Since then, Efron has undergone years of physical therapy to recover. Around the time of his Bill Nye appearance, he admitted he had stopped therapy, which forced the masseter muscles in his face to overcompensate, leaving them “really, really big.”

As for the plastic surgery rumors, Efron has been blunt. “If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work,” he told Men’s Health.

He’s even poked fun at the chatter, telling ET that his mom was the one who first brought it up, revealing, “It was funny. It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good.”
