Julie and Todd Chrisley's happy family is far from perfect.

While the reality star and his wife cooled off in jail, some of their kids struggled with staying cordial while agitating for their parents' release.

Todd and Julie Chrisley were granted a presidential pardon earlier in the year by President Donald Trump after they were convicted on all counts of tax evasion and bank fraud in June 2022.

Inside The Strained Bond Between Julie And Todd Chrisley's Kids

In the trailer for their new docuseries, Savannah Chrisley was seen admitting some hard truths about where things stand with her brother, Chase Chrisley, while their parents spent their sentences in jail.

"Chase is not Chase. It's literally, like, a blank shell. There's a part of me that is so afraid he's going to die. I literally don't even want to try to have a relationship with him," the 27-year-old noted.

The media personality also admitted in another scene that she and Chase are currently in a complicated relationship, unlike their childhood when they shared a very close bond.

Earlier, in a sneak peek of their new show, "The Chrisleys: Back to Reality," released by Lifetime, Chase inquired of Savannah about the progress made toward their parents' release.

Savannah replied with silence and later opened up in a confessional that Chase had a considerable problem keeping secrets and staying calm.

"I'm not willing to risk that. I've worked too hard for the past two and a half years for these pardons to happen, and I refuse to let someone else screw it up," Savannah explained per US Weekly.

Todd explained in the family's exclusive interview with US Weekly that it saddened him to see their kids experience those dynamics while they were away. He emphasized that he does not offer preferential treatment in his parenting and loves all his children equally.

Todd also examined the psychological side of the situation, especially the anxiety associated with his kids' bickering. He absolutely wants a natural death, and that can only work if Chase, Savannah, and Grayson remain cordial.

Julie also shared her husband's perspective, affirming that after watching the docuseries privately, witnessing such division between her children was beyond heartbreaking. In her words:

"I have always said that I'm only as happy as my saddest child, and that is something that I truly, truly live by and believe in."

The family matriarch concluded the exclusive interview with the hope that Savannah and Chase would start to rebuild their relationship and find common ground. "They're adults now, so it's on them at this point, for sure," she added.

Savannah Earned Praises For Holding The Family Together During Their Parents' Absence

The senior Chrisleys came home with hearts filled with gratitude to everyone, especially their valiant daughter, who pulled all the stops to make sure the family was straight.

As reported by The Blast, Savannah took legal guardianship of the youngest Chrisleys, Grayson and his sister Chloe, as soon as their parents were sent to jail.

Todd praised Savannah for proving to the world that she had what it took to stand in for her parents and take over where they left off. "God blessed us with a child that is so unlike so many other kids out there. I said to her many times, 'You were built for this moment," the TV star noted.

Julie was more melancholic about her compliments to Savannah; she regretted that their daughter had to put so much of her on hold so suddenly to perform a duty that was not hers to begin with.

Back in June, Todd opened up about overcoming several challenges in his life and putting them behind him, except for one, which is his wife's cancer diagnosis. The Blast stated that Julie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, accompanied by a double mastectomy.

Despite the gravity of his incarceration and how people may see it as a tumultuous event in his life, Todd shared that hearing the news of his wife's illness left him with severe PTSD.

If asked to choose between reliving his 28-month experience in federal prison over hearing news of his wife's cancer for the first time, he agreed to go for the former. Todd noted that he made tangible connections with different people across multiple age groups in jail, that experiencing cancer could not afford him.

"Because at FPC Pensacola, I had an exit date. But with that diagnosis of breast cancer, I had to live every day wondering when my exit date was," the reality star stated.

After months of being apart due to their separate facilities, Todd could not hide his shock at seeing a different version of Julie. The family matriarch shared that he almost considered going back to prison when he saw how different Julie looked.

The Chrisley family matriarch shocked the world when her post-prison pictures featured her with natural brown hair, including gray roots, a look different from her signature blonde hair.

Todd clarified that the change in looks was complicated for him to process at first, but he eventually reconciled, assuring himself that Julie would find her rhythm after a while.

Julie explained that she initially kept up with her hair routine with the help of a skilled hairstylist inmate. However, the whole process halted so suddenly when the inmate got released, prompting her to resort to box dye and eventually letting nature take its course.
