'Harry Potter' Star Defends Choice 'To Be Put Down' Medically if Health Fails: 'I Don't Want To Be Less Than I Can Be'

“Harry Potter” star Miriam Margolyes is opening up about aging, shedding light on the unconventional way she plans to leave this earth.

The 84-year-old's candid revelation comes after two younger cast members from the franchise were also battling health issues and were confirmed to have undergone surgery.

Amidst this, the director of the first two films in the franchise, Chris Columbus, seemed to be saying goodbye to the "Harry Potter" world.

Margolyes in an interview with the Daily Mail, defended her choice of medically assisted death if her health deteriorates.

The “Age of Innocence” star stated that she did not want to go through a gradual period of pain, which could be potentially embarrassing for her.

“If a stroke meant I couldn’t speak, or I was doubly incontinent, or I lost my mind completely, I would ask to be put down through medically assisted death,” she revealed during the interview.

The legendary actress reaffirmed her stance, saying the reason was her desire to remain true to herself. “I don’t want to be less than I can be,” she explained.

Margolyes, known for her sharp wit and bold candor, also voiced her thoughts on other health-related issues.

She explained that she was not interested in taking Ozempic, the popular drug often used for weight loss, stressing that “unsick people shouldn’t take medicine meant for those who are really sick.”

The British-Australian actress added, “What I do think is that we should not have food advertising on television.”

Staying true to her no-filter personality, she shared more of her reflections in her book “The Little Book of Miriam.”

“What do a***holes, apostrophes, and ageing have in common? They’re all entries in this informal and idiosyncratic dictionary of me,” she teased.

Margolyes's candid reflections on health and aging draw a sharp contrast to the real health battles faced by some of her fellow “Harry Potter” stars.

Back in May, her co-star Stanislav Yanevski made headlines. The 40-year-old star, popularly known for playing Viktor Krum in the franchise, underwent surgery.

According to The Blast, Yanevski took to Instagram to thank fans for their birthday wishes while also revealing his health struggle. He disclosed that he had been admitted to the hospital due to an “inability to breathe.”

Sharing a picture of his bandaged nose, he explained that he needed surgery and had chosen to remain quiet about it because he didn’t want to worry anyone.

Reassuring his fans, he wrote, “I will be able to breathe freely, experience all scents of life, which was something I had lost over the past months.”

While one star had nose surgery, Nick Moran, who portrayed Scabior in the "Harry Potter" franchise, underwent spinal surgery.

As reported by The Blast, the 55-year-old actor was rushed to the hospital after what initially felt like neck pain. However, it turned into something far more serious. Doctors reportedly told him, “ We need to take you in for an emergency operation because this is life-threatening.”

His longtime friend Terry Stone revealed that doctors even warned Moran might never walk or talk again, though he noted that there were already signs of improvement.

A representative for the actor later confirmed that Moran was back home and recovering, adding that he would be back to filming soon.

With all the buzz surrounding the new “Harry Potter” series, director Columbus is also making a U-turn, stating that his time at Hogwarts is firmly behind him.

"There's nothing left for me to do in the world of Potter,” the director admitted, making it clear he no longer has any interest in revisiting that phase.

As reported by The Blast, Columbus, however, does not appear bitter about the highly anticipated reboot. According to him, a smaller-screen format would allow for more details, which were shelved in the original film, to come through.

“We could never get that incredible scene into the film, and I’m sure it will be in the HBO series. So for me, it’s an opportunity to bring all those scenes to life,” he explained.
