Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are officially engaged, and the news has sparked a flurry of conversation across the internet, Hollywood, and even politics. The pop superstar and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end confirmed their engagement with a dreamy Instagram post on Tuesday, showing Travis Kelce down on one knee in a garden overflowing with flowers as Taylor Swift beamed in a striped sundress.

The post’s cheeky caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," sent Swifties into a frenzy, racking up millions of likes within hours. Celebrities, NFL teammates, and close friends, such as Brittany and Patrick Mahomes and Sabrina Carpenter, reshared the post with congratulatory messages, making it one of the most viral engagement announcements of the year, or possibly the decade.
But the conversation didn’t stop at the fan level. President Donald Trump was asked about Swift and Kelce’s engagement during a Tuesday cabinet meeting, and his response immediately made headlines. At first, Trump leaned into his signature bluntness, saying simply, “I wish him a lot of luck,” acknowledging Kelce but not Swift.
However, Trump quickly shifted into a warmer note, adding, “No, I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy. I think that she’s a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck.”
Trump And Swift’s Rocky History

Trump’s reaction may have surprised some, given his rocky history with Swift.
The feud traces back to 2018 when the singer endorsed Democratic candidates in her home state of Tennessee, sparking a rebuke from Trump, who quipped he liked her music “about 25% less.” Since then, Swift has remained outspoken on issues like LGBTQ+ rights, abortion access, and voter registration, often clashing with Trump’s policies.
Their tension deepened during the 2024 presidential election. Shortly after Trump’s first debate with Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, Swift delivered her highly anticipated endorsement of the vice president on Instagram. The "Anti-Hero" singer explained that she felt compelled to speak out after Trump’s campaign used AI-generated images portraying her as a MAGA supporter, writing, “The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
Trump Says He Prefers Brittany Mahomes Over Taylor Swift

Trump fired back, saying, “I was not a Taylor Swift fan. It was just a question of time … She’s a very liberal person, she seems to always endorse a Democrat, and she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.”
He even attempted to pivot attention toward Swift’s close friend Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Patrick Mahomes, by remarking, “I like Brittany, I think Brittany’s great. Brittany got a lot of news last week, she’s a big MAGA fan. That’s the one I like much better than Taylor Swift.”
Celebrities Celebrate Swift And Kelce’s Engagement

It wasn’t just fans flooding social media with excitement. Celebrities and sports stars also rushed to congratulate Swift and Kelce on their big news.
Brittany, one of Swift’s closest new friends, shared the announcement to her Instagram Stories with a heartfelt note, “Two of the most genuine people meet & fall in love. Just so happy for these two.” Patrick reposted the couple’s engagement photos as well, adding three simple red heart emojis.
WNBA breakout star Caitlin Clarkjoined in too, reposting Swift’s carousel to her own Stories and layering it with the pop star’s track “So High School," a song many fans believe was written about Kelce. The song was also featured in Swift’s original announcement post, making it a subtle but perfect touch.
Even the official US Open Tennis account joined the celebration, quoting one of Swift’s famous lyrics, “I wanna be your end game. Congratulations to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce on their engagement!”
