Of course, most people are familiar with Lil Nas X's rise to fame through his hit single, "Old Town Road," which spawned numerous remixes, including one featuring country legend Billy Ray Cyrus. However, Nas X, whose real name is Montero Hill, eventually expanded his catalog, releasing several pop and dance hits over the years.

Nas X's music has sparked controversy a few times in the past, specifically due to the religious imagery that many deem disrespectful and offensive. Specifically, in his self-titled single, "MONTERO," the 26-year-old is showcased sliding down a stripper pole to hell, where he gives the devil a lap dance.

Amid that, Nas X also released limited-edition Satan-themed sneakers—shoes he claimed included a drop of his blood in the air bubble.

Lil Nas X Releases 'J Christ,' Sparking Even More Controversy About His Music

Even with the backlash, Nas X didn't stop there. In 2024, the "Proud Family" actor released another song, "J CHRIST." The single's cover art showed Nas X nailed to a cross.

On X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Nas X captioned the post, "MY NEW SINGLE IS DEDICATED TO THE MAN WHO HAD THE GREATEST COMEBACK OF ALL TIME!"

While the music video references some biblical scenes, it also showcases Nas X being transported to hell, and in another scene, he fights against a demon. At the end of the video, a verse from the book of 2 Corinthians flashes on the screen.

After facing much backlash, the singer first responded to the noise by dismissing those who believed he was a "satanist." However, he changed his tune after reflecting on some of the feedback.

"I know I messed up really bad this time. I can act unbothered all I want, but it's definitely taken a mental toll on me," Nas X said. "I'm not some evil demon guy trying to destroy everybody's values and stuff like that. That's not me."

Social Media Chimes In

After news broke that Nas X was facing four felonies (three counts of battery against a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer), per a previous report from The Blast, many religious social media users have been commenting on the matter, asserting the singer is being punished by a higher power.

"Lil Nas X is an example of why you should never play with God or mock him," someone wrote on X.

Someone else wrote, "Lil Nas X should have never made fun of Jesus. Like, the devil gimmick created buzz and he should have capitalized off that by dropping normal songs."

"Lil Nas X down bad and I hate that for him," a third user posted. "But this is what happens when you mock God and play with Satanism. Vengeance is mine sayth the Lord."

Some Users Are Defending Nas X

The response to Lil Nas X's arrest and recent legal woes hasn't been all bad, however. Also on X, many users are using their accounts to defend the "HOTBOX" singer from what they believe to be unfair religious pressure.

"Seeing Lil Nas X trend for an obvious mental breakdown and religious individuals saying it's god's punishment... I pray for the day we get rid of religious psychosis," someone wrote.

"The Christians under any news post about Lil Nas X saying everything he went through was because of your god's punishment is seriously making me want to throw up," another wrote.

Another netizen added, "Too many of y'all are focused on the hatred in your hearts, instead of giving prayers and loving thy neighbor."
