Norman Reedus' Son, Mingus, Makes Troubling Threat About Taking His Own Life After Assault Arrest

Mingus Lucien Reedus, 25, son of Norman Reedus and Helena Christensen, is facing assault charges after allegedly attacking his girlfriend in Manhattan.

However, after being released without bail, he made a troubling comment to reporters that has sparked concern about his well-being.

A model since age 16, Mingus Lucien Reedushas worked with major fashion houses and appeared in campaigns with his mother.

Mingus sparked fresh concern Sunday when he made a troubling remark, just a day after being arraigned on charges of assaulting his girlfriend.

"You want to watch me kill myself?" Mingus told a reporter from the New York Post as he left his West 16th Street apartment.

According to prosecutors, Mingus and his 33-year-old girlfriend were involved in an altercation Friday night.

During the dispute, he allegedly assaulted her by kicking her and choking her with force.

He was arraigned on Saturday on charges including third-degree assault, obstruction of breathing, aggravated harassment, reckless physical injury, and second-degree harassment.

Under New York's bail reform laws, the offenses are not eligible for bail, and he was released on his own recognizance. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, August 26.

Mingus was seen on Sunday wearing the same clothing from his court appearance, accompanied by two friends and carrying his cat.

On Saturday, as he was leaving court, he also insulted a reporter, calling her "ugly."

Mingus' attorney, Priya Chaudhry, said in a statement to USA Today that her client is "presumed innocent and has pled not guilty. As the facts emerge, his innocence will become clear."

She added that prosecutors "chose to charge Mingus with misdemeanors or less," which she argued "speaks volumes."

Chaudhry also noted that "the judge released Mingus on his own recognizance, with neither bail nor supervision. That significant judicial decision amplifies the volume."

This is not Mingus' first run-in with the law. In 2021, he was arrested at the San Gennaro festival in Manhattan's Little Italy after allegedly striking a woman.

He later accepted a plea deal to disorderly conduct, which required him to attend at least five counseling sessions and stay out of legal trouble for a year.

At the time, has attorney described the allegations as "baseless" and maintained that Mingus was the victim.

Mingus also told the New York Daily News that he had only raised his arm to protect himself and accidentally hit the woman, claiming that she and her friends "were under the influence and looking for a fight."

Born on October 13, 1999, Mingus is the only child of actor Norman and former Victoria's Secret model Christensen.

He began modeling as a teenager after being scouted at a music festival at age 16. In a 2017 interview with Vanity Teen, Mingus recalled that his first runway show was for Calvin Klein.

"I was terrified but ended up having a great time," he said. "Very thankful for everything."

That same year, he signed with The Society Management and went on to walk for major fashion houses including Versace, Calvin Klein, and Tommy Hilfiger.

He has also appeared in campaigns with his supermodel mother, including a Victoria's Secret Mother's Day shoot in 2021 and a 2022 collaboration with Berlin-based label Marcell Von Berlin for its Suits Collection.

More recently, the 25-year-old has shifted his focus toward music. Since May 2024, he has released five songs on Spotify.

In an interview with Flaunt Magazine, Mingus said his passion for art and film began in childhood, influenced by both of his parents.

He recalled participating in a preschool stop-motion animation class where he made clay monsters, wrote a story for them, and turned them into short films." "I still have all the CDs," he recalled.

Mingus cited the Safdie brothers as his current favorite directors, admiring their "dark and chaotic style." He also named "Trainspotting" as the first film that deeply impacted him.

"I was 14 and must have watched it three times in a row. It was every aspect of the film: the acting, the script, the sets, and the soundtrack playing together that really hypnotized me — created a vibe," he shared.
