According to ABC7, the chase, which spanned multiple freeways, including the 105, 110, 710, and 10, quickly escalated in danger. Law enforcement helicopters hovered overhead while ground officers attempted to maintain pursuit.

However, in a shocking move that left even seasoned officers surprised, the suspect pulled into a Shell gas station located at the intersection of Imperial Highway and Long Beach Boulevard in Lynwood.

As he pumped fuel, the driver appeared to notice the AIR7 camera overhead and covered his face before looking directly into the lens.

Once the tank was filled, he jumped back into the car and sped off as if nothing had happened.

After leaving the station, the suspect wasted no time resuming the high speed chase, darting recklessly through traffic and drawing in police units from surrounding cities, including Bell.

For moments at a time, officers pulled back to create distance, hoping to reduce the risk of collisions, but the suspect showed no signs of slowing down.

From freeways to crowded surface streets, the pursuit kept residents on edge as the vehicle tore through multiple communities.

The suspect’s boldness highlighted just how unpredictable the situation had become.

The wild chase finally came to an end under the 10 Freeway overpass at Alameda Street near Los Angeles’ Fashion District. There, the suspect abruptly bailed out on foot.

The abandoned Infiniti rolled into a light pole, while the driver slipped out of sight of both AIR7’s aerial coverage and police helicopters overhead.

Authorities believe he may have been picked up by an accomplice in another vehicle or possibly carjacked an SUV nearby.

The police confirmed that the driver was still at large, leaving the community apprehensive.

Adding another layer of intrigue, the very same overpass was the scene of another unusual getaway in a recent chase, when a different suspect abandoned a stolen tanker truck and escaped in another vehicle.

Two weeks before the bold driver's shocking refueling move amid a speed chase, there was another pursuit that gripped Los Angeles, this time involving armed suspects, multiple carjackings, and a stolen tanker truck.

The ordeal began late when two armed suspects carjacked a pickup truck in the Antelope Valley just before 11 p.m. on August 10.

Authorities said the victim tried following them, prompting one of the suspects to fire shots. No one was injured, but the gunfire triggered a massive pursuit involving CHP and local agencies.

During the chase, the suspects reportedly drove the wrong way on a freeway and exchanged gunfire with officers.

Moments later, they rammed into a tanker truck, forcing its driver to flee. The suspects then took control of the big rig, continuing the pursuit through freeways and eventually into downtown Los Angeles.

Truckers watching the live broadcast told ABC7 that the tanker likely carried milk, not hazardous material, although the sheer size of the stolen vehicle added to the danger.

As the chase unfolded, the semi circled high-rises downtown before swerving onto the 10 Freeway in the wrong direction, narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic.

The chaos didn’t end there. After abandoning the tanker, the suspects slipped into yet another stolen vehicle, a white pickup truck.

At one point, they swapped drivers in Boyle Heights before ditching the truck altogether.

Police confirmed the suspects then carjacked a fourth vehicle, disappearing once again into the night.
