Actor Norman Reedus' Son, Mingus, In Police Custody For Allegedly Punching And Choking A Woman

Mingus Lucien Reedus, the son of Norman Reedus and Helena Christensen, was arrested in Manhattan for allegedly assaulting a woman, marking his second legal issue after a 2021 incident.

Raised around art and music, Christensen encouraged his creative path, which led him into modeling for Versace and Calvin Klein.

Despite success on the runway, Norman Reedus's son's real passions are film and music.

Mingus Lucien Reedus, the 25-year-old son of "Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus and former Victoria's Secret model Helena Christensen, was taken into custody in Manhattan early Saturday following an alleged assault, police sources told the New York Post.

According to one source, Mingus is accused of striking a woman, who has been identified as his girlfriend, on the leg before choking her and throwing her to the ground, leaving visible redness.

He currently resides in a luxury apartment in Chelsea, though officials noted he has not yet been formally charged.

This isn't the first time Mingus has faced accusations of violence. In 2022, he accepted a plea deal stemming from a 2021 incident at the San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy, where he was accused of punching a woman.

He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct at the time, a resolution his attorney argued held him to more responsibility than was warranted.

As part of his 2022 plea deal, Mingus was sentenced to a conditional discharge, which required him to stay out of legal trouble for a year and attend a minimum of five counseling sessions.

Christensen, 56, has previously spoken about her approach to parenting, revealing that once her son completed his education, she began charging him rent to live at home.

Speaking to People Magazine, she said, "I wish I gave him great advice. We were just so happy that he had come to that milestone, and I was like, 'Okay, free rent is up now that you've graduated."

The model has also shared how her love for music shaped Mingus's upbringing.

"I am so obsessed with music and would play it all the time when he was in my belly and when he grew up throughout his childhood," she said, adding that "his name is also in honor of obviously jazz and Charles Mingus."

"It just really makes me feel so grateful and happy that he is so passionate about music as well, and that he creates these beautiful pieces," she added.

For Christensen, seeing her son inherit that same passion and create music of his own is a source of joy.

Born October 13, 1999, Mingus is the only child Norman Reedus shares with his ex, Christensen.

He stepped into the fashion world in 2017, signing with The Society Management, and has since walked the runway for major fashion houses such as Versace, Calvin Klein, and Tommy Hilfiger.

Beyond the catwalk, he has also fronted campaigns alongside his mother, including a 2021 Victoria's Secret Mother's Day shoot and a 2022 collaboration with Berlin-based label Marcell Von Berlin for their Suits Collection.

Despite their professional overlap, Christensen says she doesn't hand down much career guidance.

In an interview with Grazia, she explained that working with her son is enjoyable because of their bond:

She said, "We have a lot of fun together, sharing little jokes between us throughout the day. It's good to have a secret language on set, that way you can really let the dark humor flow, and my son is a master at that."

Christensen added, "We have a very easy approach to it. You go do the job as fast as you can and have fun with it."

While Mingus is appreciative of his modeling career, Christensen revealed that his true focus lies elsewhere: music and film. According to her, he "spends all his time making music and studying film."

In a conversation with Flaunt Magazine, Mingus revealed that his love for art and film has been with him since childhood.

"Both my parents live through art, and they made sure I grew up with the same passion for it," he shared. "In preschool, I was part of this stop-motion class where we made clay monsters, wrote a story for them, and turned them into short films. I still have all the CDs."

He also shared the filmmakers who have shaped his perspective.

"My current favorite directors are the Safdie brothers," he explained. "I love their dark and chaotic style. I remember the first time I fell in love with a movie, 'Trainspotting.' I was 14 and must have watched it three times in a row. It was every aspect of the film: the acting, the script, the sets, and the soundtrack playing together that really hypnotized me — created a vibe."

Beyond his interest in film, Mingus is also pursuing music. Under his middle name, Lucien, he produces beats and regularly shares his original tracks on SoundCloud.
